BASTROP--In recognition
of the twelfth annual Jerry
Lewis Labor Day Tele-
thon, held to raise funds to
combat muscular dystro-
phy, Mayor James P. Sharp
has proclaimed Monday,
Sept. 5 Jerry Lewis Telethon
Day in Bastrop.
In conjunction with the
telethon, the American Leg-
ion Hall will serve as the
telethon center in Bastrop,
from 7 p.m. Sunday until
6 p.m. Monday. Locally
the telethon will be carried
on KTVV-TV, Channel 36,
and pledges will be taken
at 321-2593.
A number of area mer-
chants have indicated they
would like to make their
pledges live on television.
According to MD coordinator
Irene J. Walters, if enough
people express interest
in advance, cameras can be
scheduled to be present
at the Legion Hall at a given
time on Monday.
Walters urged any mem-
bers of the community wil-
ling to donate time manning
the telethon telephones
or to provide food or drink
for the workers to con-
tact her at her home, 321-
5318. Merchants interested
in donating merchandise
to the telethon should also
contact her at that number.
Walters also indicated that
live entertainment is being
sought for Monday. Some
have already volunteered
their time, but more are
needed.
The entire community is
being asked to pitch in and
help with this fund drive.

Authority is interested in
receiving opinions from the
general public with refer-
ence to the 208 Plan being
developed at this time,
according to mayor James
P. Sharp, of Bastrop.
"John Babcock is guiding
the development plan along

leaders in effort to get
input from the people."
the mayor said.
"The plan will show land
use and water quality along
with development within
the river basin in future
years," Mr. Sharp ex-
plained.
"LCRA is interested
in helping cities along the
way develop good waste-
water control projects to
eliminate unsafe discharges
into the river," he contin-

"When we research what
has happened across the
nation to some of our best
waterways because of un-

jto see the need for such
planning as this committee
is developing," the Mayor
stated.
