morning to draft suitable resolutions to
be presented to the various court out of
respect to the memory of th late Judge

retary. Major Botts stated the object of the
meeting and on motion of Attorney J. ML
Mathis the chair was requested ta ap-
point a committee to draft the resolu-

Through the generosity and spirit of cer-
tain citizens and the untiring efforts of
Fire Chief Tobln the commission mem-
bers of the fire departments were today
paid their salaries for th months of June
and July.
Following the usual custom which was
Interrupted when the city administration
refuaed to pay the commissions ap-
pointees in the fire department the men
were paid off at the city hall. Between
2.3a and 3 o'clock this afternoon the fire-
men assembled at the city hall and gath-
ered In the police department a aammblr
room where the formalities necessary
were eorae through with.

vicinity for over three months.

formal opening of Southwestern univer-
sity took place this morning when Dr.
John O. Mac Reynolds. L.L.D.. dean of the
medical department of the university at
Dallas delivered the opening address his
subject being "The Domain of tbe Healing
Arts." Addresses were also made by
Regent Hyer Dr. John R. Nelson finan-
cial agent of the medical college; Profs.
B. H. Moore and J. Bam Barcus. The
prospects for s good year were never bet-
ter In the history of the hi itutlon. The
enrollment will probably eaxeed 600 In the
academic departmests.
