making tha arrangements fur the affair
and la receiving tlfe support and assist-
ance of the members of the club. The
MO mark was react ed and passed bn the
entry list Wednesday and tha names of
the "hopefuls" are atlll rolling In as fast
aa the mails and telephones will work.
Mra. Pr.lohs.rd la completing the list of
physicians who will do the scoring and
arrangements are being made for
the sanitary nursery that will be run
at the Auditorium on Friday which
will ba In chiirge of trained nurses who
have cheerfully tendered their services.
There will be two classes for the babies.
One will consist of those between tha
ages of I months and 3 years and the
other will be (or those between the ages
of 3 and 5 ears. The prise list Is a
long one and tha awards were donated
by tha merchants in the city.
The mental and physical development
of the children will be the basis for
awarding the prise and medala and the
rlub will only make public the scores of
the winners tbe score cards for the rest
of the babies being given to the mothers
and the records destroyed. During the
afternoon 10-inlnute talks will be made
by a number of the leading physicians of
Houston and the nurses in charge of the
Sanitary nursery will answer all questions
the mothers may feel Inclined to ask.

exhibition at the show Wednesday morn-
ing by Mrs. A. Martin. Three black and

Following the order entered by ths
Harris County Commissioners Court re-
gard Ins; ths matter of the salaries of the
assistants la the District Attorney's office

ernoon that two members of ths fores

when ths order becomes effective. Ths
two men who will be affected according
to Dlatrlct Attorney Maury are Harry
Fisher and N. L. Nicholson. Ths former

work and ths latter Is In charge of the
two Justioe Courts.
Ths order entered Wednesday fol-
lowing severs! hearings and statements
Issued sr the Commissioners and replies
by Mr. Maury. The action of the Com-
mlsstonars is based upon data compiled by
ths County Auditor Harry Washburn
and. according to ths order In conformity
with ths statutes. It was pointed out by
the Commissioners that the order would
not operate to take away the assistants
of ths District Attorney but that he was
at liberty to retain them If he dealred.

the law requires the County of Harris to
pay to two assistants to ths Criminal
District Attorney a salary of $1SOO per
annum each and stenographer for tha
Criminal District Attorney a salary of
11200 per annum aggregating the sum of
SS00 per annum said aum being that
much greater than ever paid by ths
County of Harris for assistants to any sf
ths predecessors of the present Criminal
District Attorney although during ths
Incumbency of office of aald predecessors
ths Jurisdiction of the Criminal Dlatrlct
Court extended not only to Harris but
to Oalveston County.
And It fnrther appearing to ths court
that although ths County of Harris re-
ceives no portion of the fees received
by the Criminal Dlatrlct Attorney in the
Justice Courts and the County Court-at
Law. It la now voluntarily paying sala-
ries for assistants to the Criminal Dis-
trict Attorney amounting to ths bum of
I40S0 annually which. It Is tha ssnss of
this court should be paid by ths Crim-
inal Dlatrlct Attorney out of foes of
office received by him from ths Justice
Courts and the County Court at Lw.
Now therefore in order to make legal
the appointment and service of any as7
slstants In addition to ths three assist
ants required to be paid by Harris Coun-
ty. If the services of such additional as-
slstants are continued and compensation
paid by the Criminal District Attorney
out of the fees of office each of such
additional assistants shall hereafter re-
ceive from the County of Harris only the
aum of S10 per annum.
It further appearing to tha court that
as yet other assistants have not been
formally applied for but ths Criminal
District Attorney has expressed his de-
sire for additional assistants and wish-
ing In every way to facilitate the wort
of ths office of ths Criminal District At-
torney and In order to fix ths status of
such additional assistants as may be ap-
plied for by ths Criminal District Attor-
ney and appointed In the future and to
maks such appointments and services
legal. It Is ordered adjudged and de-
creed by ths court that such additional
assistants to ths Criminal District At-
torney to be appointed In the future
shall receive aa compensation from ths
County of Harris ths sum of S10 each
per annum th additional compensation
of said assistant to be paid out of the
fees of offlos of th Criminal District
Attorney recerred tn th Justlc Courts
and th County Court at Law.
It l further ordered by th court that
th County Jodgs shall be gorerned by
this resolution In approving any appoint-
ments and In fixing ths compensation
of any assistants to ths Criminal Dts-
trtet Attorney.
