Houston Real Kstate exchange Inaug-
urated a aeries of twlce-a-month even-
ing dinners at the Bender hotel Tuesday
night. 1 he evening was given to a sym-
poseum ot practical talks followed by
resolution and the creation of commit-
tees to put these resolutions Into ef-
fect that aim at placing the true facts
concerning the resources and advantages
of Houston before prospective factory
builders in the North and East.
The committee author lied to carry out
the work of compiling facts and dissemi-
nating them among capitalists and heads
of large Industries was authorized to
act In ivt-operation with and under the
guidance of the manufactories commit-
tee uf xhe Houston Chamber of Com-
merce which body Is engaged In a simi-
lar campaign.
The meeting was In the nature of a
dinner served in the banque? chamber
of the Bender hotel. It began at 7
o'clock and lasted until after 10 o'clock
In the evening and -.vas attended by
upwards of seventy-five or eighty mem-
bers of the Houuton Real Kstate Ex-
change and other prominent cltliens
business men and professional men In-
terested In advancing the prosperity of
Houston.
The cuisine department of the Ben-
ner hotel scored a particular success In
the quality of meal and service. Before
the last course was finished C. II. fctan-
cllff president of the exchange called
the meeting to order and announced the
first speaker John Charles Harris.
Mr. Harris brought out the signifi-
cant fact that the main object of fac-
tories is to muko money for ttieir own-
ers and went intii detail showing that
Houston possesses every advantage that
an Industry could wish in order to e:i-
jiy the highest prosperity includim: un-
surpassed shipping facilities. freight
rates and raw material.

icy of Houston in placing a minimum
late of taxatkn on industries and simi-
lar Improvements and the burden of
taxation on unimproved lands and de-
clared that Ir this respect HouMon has
done more in the past ten years to at-
tract industries than any other city in

give the greatest possible encouragement

Secretary Adolph lloldt of the Houston
Chamber of Commerce made some prac-
tical suggestions as to Inducing factories
to come to Houston and told of the sys-
tematic work done by the Chamber of
Commerce jn that line. He called atten-
tion to the fact' that In this matter Hous-
ton Is in competition with all other cities
in the country and that persevetence.
