C B. SEGER HT4RE
Auditor of Pacific System of Southern
Pacific od Way to New Orleans. -
NO RETRENCHMENT POLICY
Declares There It No Truth & Humor
That large Number of Employes
Will Be Discharged Greets
Friends Here.
C. B. Sfer of San Fr&nolsoo auditor of
th Pacifta system of th Southern Pacific
company yeeterday denied that tht? Southern
lcific Is ahout to enter upon policy of
retrenchment and will discharge a larpre num-
ber of employe to out down expenses
Mr. Seger accompanied by Mrs. Seger. Mlsa
Seeer and Muter C. B. Sever. Jr. spent the
day here on their way from San Franclsoo
to New Orleans his place of nativity and
where relative of both him and Mrs. Seger
TeMde. They are traveling In the private car
Sacramento. They departed last evening for
the Crescent City the private oar of Judge
R B. lyovett personal counsel for Edward
H. Harrlman and president of the Central-
Bast and West tinea being also attached to
this Texas and New Orleans train.
Having been auditor of the Sunset lines at
Houeton fur elm-en years Mr. Seger is well
known In HouBtn While here he became
Identified with various civic organliations
and became active in business and social
life. He nan tntuiy friends la this city and
he was kept busy renewing old acquaint-
ances yesterday.
"The rumor that the Southern Paclflo is
going to inaugurate a policy of retrenchment
which will include the discharging of a
lain number of employe to cut down ex-
penses is without truth so far as I know"
saul Mr. Seger. 'The supposition that the
Vreneni financial situation has decreased the
amount of business of the road probably Is
the cause of the circulation of the rumor.
"The business of the Southern Pacific com-
pany throughout the present financial situa-
tion ha been nermal for this time of year
the receipt of the company being as large
as could be expected even under the moat
favorable conditions. The volume of busi-
ness being done by the company at this time.
In my opinion. Justifies the retention of the
average number of employes. It Is not on
account of any policy of retrenchment adopt-
ed recently or in contemplation If any em-
ploye are being discharged.
HOl'STON HAS IMPROVED
"X am very glnd to be In Houston because
I have a great many friends here. I re-
member with a great rienl of pleasure the
years I spent In this city iind I will always
have a warm spot In my heart for It and Us
people. Houston has Improved wonderfully
in the last few years and is certain to con-
tinue to maki rapid nitrides"
Mr. Keger said that his trip Is purelv one
of pleasure Mr Sefc-.-r paid a visit to riearlv
all of the railmad officials with whom ho
was associated while he waa stationed here.
He spent cnnsioVnible time In the offices
of K. Cotttnj;h;tin. auditor of the Sunset
lines and ('. C. Barry auditor of the Central-
ist and West He exnects to return m
Houston and spend several days here next
week.
