Dear Vice-President Osthoff:
Enclosed you will find the letter from
Prof. Studtmann to you. To say the very least, it is interesting.
It tickles me to see how the Director is taking such a live interest
in the saving which has been effected in the kitchen so that he can
actually reduce the cost of eer&als at the breakfast table as well as
the meat bill and milk bill. I wonder whether he had never thought
before this that some of the boys might use more than one kind of break-
fast .food if they had three or four kinds on the table every morning.
I know what we would have done at college, and I see that our boys at
Austin would do the same thing. Well, I rejoice that we have a good
couple at the place and hope .that all will go well.
As far as the position of the Thorndale
congregation in this matter of releasing the S. family is concerned,
I do not understand what it is that should cause them to kick. I can
understand why some of the relatives might raise strenuous objection,
but why should the congregation rare up about it. Well, I too feel
that it will be better if Prof. Studtmann will not enter in upon any
lengthy discussion with them. I do not think that it will help matters
much, perhaps simply stir them up a little more. I feel that after a
little*while also*these folks will see the reason of our Board's
action.
Your suggestion that I speak to Mr. Telger
about spurring on our college association, I will carry out at the
first opportunity I have to speak to him more fully. They have just
had the*Dube funeral and Mrs. Dube is still in their home so I have
said nothing about it to date.
As far as the piano is concerned, it
surely would be fine if we could get a "Grand" instead of an "Upright"
for our chapel. I hope that you can figure out some way by which this
can be accomplished.
With kindest greetings,
