Constable Was Killed

E. Thornton a deputy constable was shot
and killed here Saturday night. Ave bul-
lets entering his body.
Joaeph Griffin a former policeman was
arrested charged with the killing and
taken to Beaumont late Saturday night.
Police aay the two men fought a pistol
duel during which Thornton fired two
shots. The cause of the trouble is not
known. '

indictment charging him with having
caused the death of his mother by poison-

which had been in the house several
