tion 'offered by Aldermen Parker and

generating plant of sufficient size ami a
distribution system comprising poles and
lines including conduits underground in

21.
Rains fell throughout the lower Rio
Grande valley Saturday. Lyford reports
three and 'one-half inches. It waa the
first general rain in this country since
last winter and insures good feed crops.
NAVASOTA Texas July 21. A slow
rain fell here Friday afternoon that will
help the hay fields.
TAYLOR Texi; July' 21. The 14ag
drouth wa effectually broken here late
Wednesday afternoon when a tremendous
downpour lasting: three-qnarters of an
hour soaked the whole country around
Taylor and the town Itself. The precipi-
tation is estimated at from one and a half
to two Inches.
TORKTOWN Texas. July 21. Another
heavy rain fell here Thursday afternoon
which will' be sufficient for sometime. -
RUSK Texas July 21. It has been
raining here ever since Thursday night at
10 o'clock and wa 'still raining Friday.
There has been at least two and a half
Inches of rainfall since It began. The
ground la the wettest it has been ta six
months and the creeks are higher than
they have been for years. THe pea.' corn
and peanut crops will be greatly benefited

BEAUMONT Texas July 21. The
longest drouth Jn the history of the gulf
coast rice belt was- broken Friday night
when a heavy rain visited this section
the precipitation during the nlgjit and a
portion of Saturday morning totalling
2 1-2 inches. . The downpour was general
all over the coastal rice belt and waa suf-
ficient for present irrigation purposes.
Rice men referred to It Saturday as the
million dollar rain but It 1 safe to- ay
that it saved rice crop In Southeast
Texas and Southwest Louisiana to the
amount of several millions of dollars.
