Governor Parker to Aid
Orange in Water Fight
Houston Post Special.
ORANGE Texas Feb. 5. In
lengthy communication received hero Fri
day from Governor John M. Parker ot
Louisiana to Mayor W. EL Lea in re-
sponse to a letter from the mayor ex-
plaining the situation of Port Arthur
Texas applying to the Texas water board
of engineers for rights to take fresh
water supply from the Sabine river th
governor stated that Louisiana would be
represented at the next hearing to be
held at Orange February 23.
Mayor Lea who owns lands in Loni-
aiana watered by the Sabine river had
appealed to Governor Parker to take up
the matter ia behalf of those who held
riparian rights to the water on the Sa-
bine river watershed. Port Arthur being
situated on the west side of the Neches
river water shed and asking for 4000-
000.000 gallons annually of fresh water to
be taken from the storm flow the normal
flow and the underflow of Sabine river

Masked Nightriders Serve
Notice on Farm Renters
Associated Press Report
BRIDGEPORT Ala. Feb. 5. Masked
night riders with horses covered with
white cloth descended upon a score of
nonunion farm renters Thursday night
and served notice thst they "either join
the tenants' union or leave your farms
within 10 daya. They also called upon
land owners and demanded that only
union farmers be employed or given shel-
ter. The demonstration it ia understood.
was the result of differences arising be-
3. Full amoeatv for all "rebels" re
gardless of the charges against them.
4. Withdrawal of British troops from
Ireland. '
Certain modification! were suggested
regarding the four points and in the dis
cussion it waa stated that negotiations!
along th line laid down would bar a
good chance to result in a truce.
Partlti Traparary.
It was made dear for instance that
Dail Eireann was willing to accept par-
tition only as a temporary measure the '
leruns; Dews ruiiuuiu-ru uiai i'iicr bwm
would come into th Sinn Fein fold volun-
tarily. Aa an alternative for withdrawal ot aS
British troop from Ireland it waa sug-
gested that some arrangement for con
tinuance of garrisons thoro lor traiuing i
purposes might bo worked out acceptable I
to both sides using the relations exist-
ing in tne unuea states net ween teuerai
troops and tb State government as a
model.
It waa emphasised however that In
thia event such troops could be called out
only when asked for by the Irish govern-
ment to suppress civil disorder. -
Acceptance of these "terms" Sinn
Fein leaders aay by England would mean
the permanent recognition by Ireland ot
binding connection with the British em-
pire. Ottiiir Aid With Platform.
Lord Justice O'Conner of the Dublin
high court who has influence and friends
on both sides of the Irish controversy
had much to do with the framing of the
platform and a draft ot the document has i
been taken to London by an Irish envoy
for consideration by the British author-
ities. Another envoy is In Belfast seek-
ing support for the plan to which Ulster
must subscribe before any actual peace
negotiations can be launched.
It ia believed there will be little diffi-
culty over the amnesty plank.
The feeling at present among certain
influential Sinn Fein leaders is a desire
to daal direct with General MacReady
commander of the crown forces in Ire-
land whom they admire as a soldier and
respect as an honest man."
They profess the utmost scorn for the
politicians however and one of them
declared that the Sinn Fein could settle
with General MacReady in an hour.
