and-ready again, as always, to peril his own liberty
and his life for the freedom of his country-he joined
the party, and was one of the foremost in the assault
upon the fort.
On the 11th, the delegates from the various munici.
palities, elected to form a General Council, to provide
for the emergency of the times, met at San Felippe and
organized.
On the same day, the army, amounting to about three
hundred men, was organized at head.quarters, on the
Guadalupe. Gen. Austin was elected Commander.inChief.
On the 13th, the army took the line of march for
Bexar, with the purpose of getting possession of that
important post as early as possible, and thus having in
command the entire Western frontier.
On the 16th, representatives, elected to a general
consultation of Texas, arrived at San Felippe, and
on the evening of the same day went into committee
of the whole. The members present did not constitute
a quorum, a majority of the members elect
having taken the field: at the request, therefore, of the
absent members, and of the officers and soldiers of the
army, those present adjourned until the 1st of November,
having previously resolved that such of their num.
ber as could join the army, should do so, and that the
rest should attach themselves to ihe General Council.
The army in the mean time was on the march to
Bexar. In the course of this march General Austin
sent a flag to Gen. Cos, then in command at Bexar.
Cos refused to receive it; and informed Gen. Austin,
that if another were sent he would fire upon it. On
