Mrs. Hall died Jan. 25 in
Jacksonville. She was born
April 27, 1935, in Eagle Lake.
She was a homemaker and a
Baptist. She lived in New Sum-
merfield for 57 years.
She is preceded in death by

Smith, 84, of Ponta, will be at
2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, at
Myrtle Springs Cemetery in
Ponta with the Rev. Dr. Darin
Wood officiating.
Mrs. Smith died Jan. 26 after
a lengthy illness. She was born
June 20, 1928, in Gallatin.
Mrs. Smith was a member of
First Baptist Church in Ponta.
She worked as a clerk at Kelly
Air Force Base and Buddies’

Church in Mixon.
Mr. Ballew died Jan. 26 in

He was born May 14, 1942,

Navy and owned Ballew’s Up-
holstery in Tyler.

Mr. Perdue died Saturday
in Nacogdoches. He was born
Feb. 8, 1951, in Nacogdoches
to Thomas Alvin Sr. and Helen
Smith Perdue. He lived all his

Mr. Loper died Jan. 27 in
Greenville. He was born March
24,1924, in Jacksonville to the
late Pearl Loper and Florine
Swearingen. Mr. Loper was a
Rusk resident for 16 years. He
formerly lived in Palestine. He
was an auto repair specialist for
Joe Johnston Ford in Palestine
for 18 years and for Jack Rog-
ers Chevrolet for 24 years as a
life in Alto. He owned and op-
erated Perdue Wood Company
for many years before opening
Shiloh Ridge ATV Park in 1998.
He was preceded in death by
his parents.
Survivors include his wife
of 42 years, Charlotte Perdue
of Alto; daughter and son-in-
law, Amanda and Ty McCarty
J.C. LOPER
mechanic and wrecker driver.
Mr. Loper served in the United
States Navy in World War II in
Iwo Jima and was a member of
First Baptist Church in Rusk.
He was preceded in death by
his first wife, Marie Glidden
Loper and second wife, Aeline
Halbert Loper.
Survivors include a daughter
and son-in-law, Marcia and
Dennis Ryder of Greenville;
two granddaughters, Michelle
McKenzie and husband Greg
of Acworth, Ga. and Linda

Graveside service for Jerry
(Huck) Berry, 76, of Jackson-
ville, will be at 2 p.m. Thurs-

Laneville with Robert Wallace

Mr. Berry died Jan. 27.
He was born Aug. 7, 1936, in
Jacksonville. He was owner of
Berry’s Auto Paint and Body
Shop for 60 years, and served in
the United States Army during
the Korean War. He was pre-
ceded in death by his parents,
Gerald Berry and Irene Ham-
monds Berry. Survivors include
two brothers, Gerald Berry
of Jacksonville and Dewayne
Berry of Ironton; and a sister,
Betty Roberts of Dallas. Neph-
ews were honorary pallbearers.

L. Brister, 80, of Rusk, was at
2 p.m., Thursday at the Pleas-
ant Grove Missionary Baptist
Church with Rev. Kevin Gentry
officiating.
Mr. Brister died Jan. 22 at
his residence. He was born
April 24, 1932, in Pitkin, La.
to the late Harrison Brister and
Gussie Fuller.
Mr. Brister was a resident of
Rusk for 20 plus years and also
hved in Arlington for 20 years.
He worked for the Anderson
County Jail as a jailer for five
years, retiring in 1993. He
served in the United States
Army and was a member of
Pleasant Grove Missionary
Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by
his parents, three brothers and
one sister. Survivors include
two sons, Dennis W. Brister of
Houston and Keith Brister of
Rusk; two daughters, Donna
L. Owens of Anna and Vickie
Charrier of Sanger; a sister,
Alma L. Wolfe of Jacinto City.

can Opportunity Tax Credit is extended through 2017. The law
provides an above-the-line deduction in both 2012 and 2013
for qualified tuition and related expenses. The law also makes
