12 days of Christmas in July celebration

will celebrate its first
Christmas in July cele-
bration, July 18 - 2 9. The
Christmas in July celebration
will include 12 days of food,
shopping, fun and holiday
preparations.
The festivities will kick
off with two celebrity design
RUSK
experts from Dallas and
Houston. Stephen Dankesre-
iter creative director of Polly
Dupont and Melissa Snow of
Melissa Snow Designs, will
share their holiday trends for
2013 on Thursday, July 18.
Polly Dupont was named
the Best Tabletop and Kitchen
Accessories store in the Sep-
tember/October 2012 issue of
D Magazine.
The Dallas-based store has
been in business since 1946
and carries more than 400 pat-
terns of formal and fine china.
During the 12 days, a variety
of activities and entertain-
ment will be available includ-
ing holiday shopping on Pal-
estine Main Street, “Women
Who Wine for Holiday Food &
Wine” at Red Fire Grill and
a “Hawaiian Christmas” for
children at O’Sweet Pea.
“Main Street focuses on Pal-
estine’s history and traditions,
but sponsors will keep an
eye on the future. They have
partnered with local artists to
create a Pop-Up Art Gallery
on West Oak. This gallery will
be open July 26-28 only and
will feature work from local
and regional artists, in a mix
of mediums and styles,” said
Laura Westgate, Main Street
manager.
Santa will arrive for his
summer daycation at Splash
Park on Sunday, July 28 and
the city will unveil the 2013

Mr. and Mrs. V.L. Dyess
met July 4 for their annual
family reunion at the camp
house of Forrest and Rita
Dyess of Rusk.
Before the meal those at-
tending stood around the
United States flag, said the
Pledge of Allegiance and
sang the “Star Spangled
Banner.” The Rev. James
Palmer, friend of the family,
asked the blessing before
the family ate. There were
67 family members and 10
visitors present.
The meal consisted of
hamburgers, hot dogs, chips,
desserts, ice cream and tea.
Activities of the day were
basketball, washers and
picture taking.

“God’s World Comes Together” during

to honor rolls
The following students have been
named to the President’s List at Ste-
phen F. Austin State University for the
spring semester: Abbey Scott of Alto;
and Aaron Corley, Kristen Killion and
Sydney Womack from Rusk.

were Kristen Kirkpatrick and Brittani
Tyer from Alto; Noel Dominy, Jenny
Holley and Rebecca Robbins from

Delivery drivers needed for
Meals on Wheels
Meals on Wheels needs drivers to
deliver food to homebound persons.
Persons interested in volunteering
are asked to contact Sarah Welch at
(903)743-5351. Most volunteers de-
liver twice a month for about one hour.
The Rusk site delivers approxi-
mately 15 meals a day, five days per
week, except on holidays.
‘Dig into Reading’ program
begins July 18 at Wells
The “Dig into Reading” program
gets underway July 18 at the Rube
Sessions Memorial Library at Wells.
Pre-registration is underway this
week. Additional information is avail-

The July 18 program is scheduled
for 10-11 a.m. and will feature “Bring-
ing Ponies a Clydesdale.” “Creature
Connection” is the title for the 2-3 p.m.
July 25 session. The Aug. 1 program
will be presented by the Hudson Fire
Department search and rescue Dog.
Dairy farmers with a dairy cow will
present the program from 10-11 a.m.
Aug. 8. ProfessorQB the Clown/Magi-
cian will be in charge of the program
from 2-3 p.m. Aug. 15.
Summer lunch program
continues at the Alto
Chaparral Center
The summer food program in Alto,
which provides free lunches to all chil-
dren underage 18 began July 1 and will
continue through Aug. 23. Meals will
be served from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

the summerfood program. Volunteers
are needed to help serve, supervise
and do outreach in the community.
