INDIAN \week
By Quinten Boyd
Sports Editor
A recap of last week’s basket-
ball action from Jacksonville,
Bullard and Brook Hill:
Indian pressure breaks
Corsicana
The old adage states that
“pressure will bust a pipe.” The
Jacksonville Fightin’ Indians
subscribe to that theory.
Last Tuesday, it was the
12th-ranked Indians’ defense
that again helped lead them
to victory as Jacksonville held
Corsicana under 30 points, de-
feating the Tigers 52-25.
The Indians forced 35 turn-
overs and held the Tigers to 36
shots for the entire game as they
came back from a 10-0 deficit
early in the first quarter to roll
to victory.
Kedarrius“K.D.” Buckingham
led the Indians with 12 points
and eight rebounds. Dadrian
“D.D.” Franklin notched 10 and
Londedric Taylor added nine
points and seven rebounds.
Dzifa Mallet led Corsicana
with seven points. Daniar
Martin and Tedrick Wilson both
added six.
Final minute free throws
doom Maidens
The Jacksonville Fightin’
Maidens were in the thick of
their game against the Corsi-
cana Lady Tigers, even despite
being outscored in the third
quarter, 15-9.
However, the Lady Tigers hit
their free throws in the final
seconds to hold off the Fightin’
Maidens, 39-35, forcing a three-
way tie for fourth in District
16-4A.
Corsicana, John Tyler and
Jacksonville are all 1-3 in the
district slate.
Chancii Scott led the Maidens
with 19points. Same tria “Pooh”
Baker added seven and Jasmine
Parson notched six.
Calae Wilson led Corsicana
with 13 points. Erica Melendez
notched eight and Gahnda Da-
vis put in six.
Panthers ease past Buckeyes
The Bullard Panthers left
no doubt early on in their fifth
district game of the season
when they hosted the Gilmer
Buckeyes.
The Panthers jumped out to a
15-3 first quarter lead, then ex-
tended it to a 24-point halftime
lead on their way to a 60-31 win
to improve to 3-2 in 16-3A.
Chandler Clark led the Pan-
thers with 12 points. Hunter
Landrum added 11 and both
Corbin Howard and Landon
Beckham each notched nine.
Pat Finch led Gilmer with 11
points. Dakeilon Nelson added
nine.
Abercrombie lifts Lady
Panthers over Gilmer
With time running low in their
district matchup against Gilmer
and their undefeated district
recordinperil, the Bullard Lady
Panthers needed something to
lift them in the final seconds.
Lexi Abercrombie provided
that lift.
With time running short, Ab-
ercrombie hit a shot to give Bul-
lard the lead against the Lady
Buckeyes - a lead that would
hold on until the final buzzer
as Bullard edged Gilmer, 33-32.
Bridgette Taylor led the
Lady Panthers with 17 points.
Lexi Kirgan added eight, Aber-
crombie finished with six and
Madison Slayter notched two.
Jasmine Jones led Gilmer
with 14points. Jameekia Homer
added six and Diamond Shaw
scored five.
Lady Guard roll after
dominating 1st half
The Brook Hill Lady Guard
remained undefeated in TAPPS
District 4, Div. Ill play as they
blitzed Richardson Canyon
Creek 49-23.
The Lady Guard held the
Lady Cougars scoreless in the
first quarter and led at the half,
31-2. The Lady Guard reserves
finished the game.
Samantha Anderson led
Brook Hill with 16 points and
14rebounds. Alyssa Eden added
14 points and 12 rebounds, and
MorganMoss notched 11 points,
seven steals and six assists.
Avery Langemeier (6) and
Karina Redfern (2) completed
the scoring for the Lady Guard.
Nia Norwood led the Lady
Cougars with eight points.
Madison Young added six and
Joue Ennis scored five.
Guard defends home court
The Brook Hill boys put dis-
tance between themselves and
Canyon Creek early, defeating
the Cougars, 78-49.
The Guard led after the first
quarter, 21-8 and finished the
game by outscoring the Cougars
in the fourth, 20-10.
Chase McDermott led Brook
Hill with 23 points. Bryant
Robinson and Alex Hale both
added 12 and Andrew Swink
put in eight.
Jalen Johnson and John
Oliver led Canyon Creek with
16 points each. Blake Gorman
added nine.
