there hadn’t been a weight

could beat 10 days in the

I’m going to plant something
lighter, that grows higher off
the ground next year. If I ever
find Carlton Jones again,
I’m going to ask him what he
knows about growing grapes.
I’m sure that wherever Big
Jones is, he is having a good
laugh at my expense. The
sad part of it all is he talked
me into planting pumpkins
where the pinto beans were.
I’m going to be farming until
Halloween.
I want to wish everyone

in America, but they never
have and probably never will.
Somebody is always going
to be mad about something,
so you might as well go buy
yourself some fireworks and
a watermelon and make the
best of the hohday. Some of
you might even get energetic
enough to make a freezer of
homemade ice cream. The
only way it could get any bet-
ter than that is if you loaded
it all up in the back of a pick
up and took it down to the
river. Tie a rope swing on a
big oak limb by the river, and
swim and play all afternoon.
Have a safe and happy
hohday. I’ll see ya next week!
And remember, Americans
are generous and strong
and decent, not because
we believe in ourselves
but because we hold be-
liefs beyond ourselves.
