COLLEGE SPIRIT
Loyalty is. undoubtedly an essential
quality in every man’s character. Loyalty
especially in college, is manifested by an
enthusiastic college spirit. Without this
spirit the school, as a whole, cannot pro-
gress. To have college spirit, then, a stu-
dent must willingly sacrifice some of his
own interests to the interests of the
school. A loyal student is thoroughly in-
terested in the name and reputation of
his school and will do his utmost to up-
hold her honor; and to a clean, high-mind-
ed American boy this should prove to be
no effort at all. St. Mary’s has always
stood for the highest in education. It has
an unblemished escutcheon which has
stood clean and unscarred for almost sev-
enty five years and it is our duty, in the
same manner as our predecessors, —to
“carry on” that wonderful old spirit.
So let us willingly put our shoulder
to the wheel and work hard to promote
the honor and fame of old St. Mary’s.
Judge and Heine are our coming street
car conductors. Ask any Westmoorland
girl.
Love is a mild form of insanity according
to Father Ei. Red Thomas must be madly
in love with some unfortunate girl.
The only difference between Dick Harn
and Rockne is that Dick “just hasn't the
material.”
Before Halloween comes along we wish
to announce that pitching some guy out
of the fourth floor window of Chaminade
Hall is no practical joke.

ALLUMNI FIELD DAY
The annual field day of the Saint
Mary’s College Alumni Association was
held on August 16, 1925 on the College
campus at West End. The festivities for
the day were opened by Leon Walthall
the Alumni President. More than 100
members were present and the ’eats were
dished out under the new pagoda of the
Senior Division.
W. Dielman, Tony Castanola, L.
Walthall, A. Steves, C. Meyer and many
others of the old stand-bys were present
for the occasion.
The special feature of the day was
the little newspaper called ‘Pep’. ‘Pep; was
sort of a menu and joke book combined.
Another feature of the meet was the
many and costly attendance prizes pre-
sented to the Association by the leading
San Antonio merchants, many of whom
are Old Saint Mary’s boys. This is just
another example of the popularity which
the Association enjoys.
The most unique event of the day
was the evolution race, on all fours,
which was won by C. Schultze. This race
was the laugh event of the day as it took
every one back to the days when he was
first learning to walk. As can be imag-
ined, many fell by the wayside.
Then there was also the barbecue,
and the tug-of-war in which nearly every
one participated, and the annual base-
ball game which broke up in an amicable
squabble.
Last, but not least, was the swim
which was enjoyed by spectators as well
as by participants. After this, the mem-
bers decided to call it the end of a per-
fect day and they returned home tired in
body but refreshed in mind.

Are you troubled with horrid insomnia?
Can’t you go to sleep? Get your fuh
night’s rest. Read one chapter of Ely’s
Economics. Recommended to bring on
sweet dreams by any St. Mary’s Col-
lege student.
