Mrs. Ellis died on Jan. 18,
her "'4th birthday. Her loving
husband was by her side and
she was surrounded by family.
She was born Jan. 18, 1936.

FBC plugs in Power Lunches

Fust Baptist Church Wylie is
adding a new ministry. Power
Lunch.
According to church officials,
the Power Lunch program will
bring in dynamic community
and national faith-based leaders
who will speak while members
of the community have lunch.
"It is an ideal place to have a
great lunch while being chal-
lenged to make every day
count." Pastor Kris Segrest said.
The event will be presented at
noon for six consecutive
Thursdays. Feb. 4 through
March 11.
Cost for the lunch and speak-
er is S10 per session; a package
can also be purchased for S55.
Tickets can be purchased in
advance at the FBC Event
Center. 200 N. Ballard Ave., at
the door, or the Web site
www.fbcwylie.org.
Those chosen as speakers are
"evangelical Chnstians in places
of influence, and they will be
sharing with others in places of
influence." Segrest said.
Feb. 4, the kick-off speaker
will be Neal Jeffrey, former All-

Chief Randy Corbin of
Wybe Fire-Rescue will speak at
the Feb. 11 Power Lunch.
Corbin, WF-R fire chief since
2007, also serves on the Incident
Management Team for Baptist
Child and Family Services in the
state of Texas. He assists with
medical special needs popula-
tions in disasters. Corbin is
actively involved with his com-
munity, serving as a deacon at
FBC and as a member of the
board of directors of Wylie
Chamber of Commerce.
Feb. 18. Scott Turner will
speak. Turner is a community
leader, motivational speaker, and
NFL defensive back for nine
seasons. Turner is known for his
character, passion, and his dedi-
cation to service, church officials
said. His professional football
career began in 1995 when he
was drafted by the Washington
Redskins; he played for the
Redskins for three years, then
the San Diego Chargers. While
with San Diego, he earned four
Player of the Week nominations,
a record for the team.He finished
his football career with the
Denver Broncos.
Scott O'Grady will speak
Feb. 25. O'Grady was shot down
in war-torn Bosnia and shares
the six-day, life-or-death ordeal
that made headlines and inspired
millions, along with teaching
lessons in preparation, teamwork
and leadership.
March 4, Kelly Shackelford
will be the featured speaker.
Shackelford has been the presi-
dent/CEO of Free Market
Foundation and chief council of
Liberty Legal Institute since
1997, working to protect free-
doms and strengthen families for
over a decade. He was awarded
the William Bentley Ball Award
for Life and Religious Freedom
Defense for his work protecting
religious freedom.
The final speaker of the series
will be Afshin Ziafat on March
11. Ziafat was born in Houston
and. in second grade, he was
given a Bible by a tutor. "As a
sejiior in high school, he read
that Bible and came to faith in
Christ as his only Lord and
Savior," the church's informa-
tion states.
Because of his newfound
faith, his Muslim family dis-
owned him. "His story is one of
heartbreak leading to great joy
following Christ even in the
midst of persecution."
Some sponsorships are avail-
able. Sponsors will be allow ed to
hand out promotional material
and give a short promotional
plug for their business.

Fuller said he will meet with
his assistant superintendents and
transportation officials and will
return to the board within 10
days of the Jan. 18 meeting with
a proposal. The February
trustees meeting will be the goal
for a final decision.
Coach resigns
Trustees also accepted the res-
ignation of Coach Bradley Glenn
Thompson, who was arrested
Dec. 9. 2009, on charges of sex-
ual assault of a child. Thompson
had been employed by Anna
ISD, where the alleged assault
took place, before coming to
Wylie High School where he
taught English and was head
freshman football coach and a
varsity assistant in charge of the
offensive line.
2010-' 11 budget and tax
rate calendar announced

scheduled for April I1) and May
17 and June 7.
The budget hearing and budg-
et approval are scheduled for
June 21 The tax rate hearing (if
necessary) and rate adoption are

His leadership experience also
includes two years as assistant
principal at Wylie High School
and a year as assistant principal
at Burnett. He has been the
Burnett principal since 2007.
"Kyle has proven himself to
be a strong leader and motivator
of people," said Superintendent
Dr. John Fuller "He has a wide
knowledge of athletics and has
been a successful coach; he is
also an outstanding fiscal, per-
sonnel and facilities manager."
Ball said, "Kyle Craighead is
a proven leader with Wylie ISD.
He has served our district in
numerous roles and capacities in
his 17 years here. He is a good fit
for this position, blending aca-
demics and athletics and the past
with the present."
"I am excited to be moving
into this new leadership role
within the athletic department,"
Craighead said. "I am also look-
ing forward to working closely
with out administrators, coach-
es, and student/athletes to con-
tinue the great traditions in
Wylie athletics"
Craighead has a Bachelor of
Science degree from the
University ol North Texas and a
Master of Education degree in
educational administration front
Dallas Baptist University. He is
a 1982 graduate of Wylie High
School. He is a member of the
WHSI Sports Hall of Honor and
is on the board of directors of
that organization.
