THE TYLER JOURNAL
FRIDAY, JULY IP, 1936
Smith County’s Banks Reach All-Time High
As Shown By Official Statements June30,1936
Financial Status Reassuring
Statements of Tyler Banks under
official call of June 30 reveal an all-
time high record in point of total re-
sources and of total deposits. A com-
parable condition is likewise reflect-
ed in the reports of all othe other
banks of the county under the recent
call. The status of the banks of a
given region is presumed to be an
index as to the status of business in
general in that region. That being
true, the agricultural and commercial
interests of this country ought to look
upon the future with assurance, with
high Hopes and purposes, and, we
think, with both pride and confidence.
Evidently there is nothing the matter
with this country—and what is true
of this immediate area of East Texas
is generally true of every other area
of the state. There is nothing wrong
in so far as business and the pros-
pects of gainful employment for the
average man are concerned—unless it
be a sense of fear and apprehension
left as a “hang-over” from the sad
wit*
experiences to which the recent de-
pression subjected the people. Every
available index, whether it be official
bank statements, automobile pur-
chases, freight car loadings, or some
of the other indices by which business
and business prospects are evaluated,
go jto, confirm that all is well. If one
is justified in incorporating into a
financial discussion- an observation of
a political nature, then it would seem
that the observation is timely that the
New Deal has made good.
