Alcohol Seminar
Set For April 28
Plans have been made by the
Student Christian Association for
an alcohol seminar to be held on
Tuesday night, April 28, from 6:30
until 9:30 in the Religious Activi-
ties Center. A committee headed
by Nancy Armistead and compos-
ed of David Switzer, Dean John
Berglund, Margie Scott, Neil Abel-
es, and Eddie Vetter, has been
making arrangements for the sem-
inar, which will be a follow- up to
last year’s seminar. Specific invita-
tions have been issued to students
who attended the meeting last
year, and thirty freshmen were in-
vited in addition, bringing the
number of written invitations is-
sued to a total of 96. The entire
student body is invited and urged
to attend this seminar.
Speakers for the occasion have
been engaged. Dr. Lester Keyser
of Fredricksburg will speak o n
the psychological and physiological
aspects of alcoholism. Mr. Horace
Fort, Director of the Wrage Foun-
dation of Alcohol Studies in Austin,
a member of Alcoholics Anonymous,
will speak to the students from the
viewpoint of an alcoholic.
The men will be available for
further discussion in any area fol-
lowing the specific discussion
group after Dr. Keyser’s presenta-
tion. Mr. Fort will remain a t
Southwestern and will visit several
classes on Wednesday morning.

STEVE JACKSON
Steve Jackson, junior, is one of
the top S.U. players for the tennis
competition this season.
S.U. Tennis Team
Has Eight Wins
Southwestern, posting it’s eighth
victory, defeated St. Mary’s of San
Antonio last Friday afternoon 6-0.
This score doesn’t indicate the
closeness of the matches, however,
but some idea may be gained hi
noticing that in every match except
one there were split sets. St. Mary
was strengthened by the addition
of a heretofore unseen freshman
Max Cooper, but despite this and
also the cold weather our team
prevailed, getting particularly fine
play from Jerry Strickler and Da-
vid Watts. Here’s the round-up of
the scores.
Strickler defeated Cooper 6-1, 6-2.
Watts won over Joe Segovia 7-5, 2-6,
8-6. Harold Brooks beat Roger Ro-
driquez 7-5, 4-6, 6-3. Neil Abeles de-
feated John Swent 7-5, 6-2. The
first doubles match went to Strick-
ler and Abeles 5-7, 7-5, 6-2. Watts
and Brooks also won 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, in
the second doubles.

helped organize that team when
it was first formed during his
senior year. Since coming to South-
western he has lettered three years
and has distinguished himself, not
only in athletics, but in academic
and student life affairs as well. His
major is history and philosophy,
and he plans to become a minister.
