Tropical and nautical. Two of my
favorite words. And they both apply
to Castaways Seafood and Grill Res-
taurant which is located midpoint on
Alister Street at the comer of Beach
Street here in Port Aransas.
The tropical part begins with the
lush plantings out front The spot-
lighted palms and the twinkling lights
among the tropical foliage bordered
by rows of cut-off pilings furnish an
inviting entrance to the restaurant
Once inside, you are surrounded by
the ijautical theme. The walls are
covered with pictures of and articles
from ships. The rope covered pillars
are decorated with playful Tiki masks
• and carved coconuts. The light col-
ored wood paneling gives a bright and
airy feel to the room and the ceiling
fans keep the air conditioned air mov-
ing comfortably.
My companion and I were greeted
by our friendly server. Polly, and
shown to a table whose topi had vinyl
covering over articles and pictures ol
old South Jetts newspapers. It’s al-
ways lun to read these snippets trom

Perusing the menu. I was overcome
by the wealth of choices The appe-

several versions of seafood or chicken
Alfredo. There are also several "grear
sandwiches" served on buns baked
fresh on the premises.
The desserts were not listed on the
menu, but our waitress twisted my
arm until I ordered the buttermilk pie.
Other sweets she mentioned included
key lime pie, French silk pie and plain
or pineapple cheesecake - all made
fresh m the restaurant
