Type O, other blood donors needed
The Port Aransas Community Blood
Bank will be at the IGA Family Center
parking lot Tuesday. June 13.
Blood will be accepted from all
donors from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
All types of blood are needed, espe-
cially O positive and O negative do-
nors, said Carolyn Conoly of the Com-
munity Blood Bank in Corpus Christi.
Donors must be in good health,
Conoly said, be free from infection,
weigh at least 110 pounds, have no
history of hepatitis or heart disease
and not have donated blood in the past
eight weeks.
People on most medications, except
injected insulin, may donate blood,
depending on the reason it is being

Chamber topic
Spring Break will be the topic of the
June luncheon of the Port Aransas
Chamber of Commerce-Tourist Bu-
reau.
City Manager James Chissolm of
South Padre Island will be guest
speaker.
The catered lunch will be at the
Aransas Princess Condominium at 12
noon Tuesday, June 13. The Dutch
treat lunch, at $7 per person, is open to
Chamber membra and the public.
Advance reservations are requested
by calling the Chamber at 749-5919
by Monday, June 12.
Chissolm will talk about how Spring
Break is handled at South Padre Is-
land, activities and events they spon-
sor, their preparations, problems and
how problems are solved. A question
and answer session will follow his
remarks.
ACU honor society
installs Gillespie
Troy Gillespie, a freshman at
Abilene Christian University, has been
installed into Phi Eta Sigma, a na-
tional scholastic honor society.
Required for membership is a grade
point average of 3.5 or belter during
the freshman year.
"It is the greatest scholastic distinc-
tion a freshman can attain. Only a
small percentage of the students in the
freshmen class attain the honor each
year,” wrote Dr. Royce Money, ACU
president, in a letter to Gillespie's par-
ents, Yancy and Linda Gillespie of
Port Aransas
Gillespie is a 1994 honor graduate
of Port Aransas High School.

Community Theatre is getting off to a
quick start with the election of board
members and officers, and planning
for Cabaret Night and the production
of the Dillon Thomas play Under
Milkwood.
At PACT’S sixth annual meeting
Wednesday, May 31, Will Mayes was
elected president, Fisher Brown was
elected vice president, Shirley Fischer
was named treasurer and Leslie Willey
Jr. was elected secretary. Board mem-
bers are John Williams, Sharon
Schafer, Marion Fersing, Anita Meyer,
Maritime student
tours foreign ports
Hunter Neblctt of Port Aransas, a
maritime administration major at
Texts A&M University at Galveston,
was one of four students chosen to go
on a shipping industry related tour of
London and Rotterdam.
He will receive college credit for
the 11 day trip with Dr. Von Zharen,
professor of environmental law at
TAMUG.
Highlighting the trip was an invita-
tion to attend a session of the World
Court which handles arbitration for
international disputes.
The group was welcomed to Lon-
don by the American Bureau of Ship-
ping, attended a session of the Interna-
tional Mantime Organization, toured
their headquarters and Lloyds of Lon-
don. They visited the campus of South
Hampton University and the Green-
wich Maritime Museum.
In Rotterdam, the largest port in the
world, they spent two days with the
Environmental Port Police and toured
the port.
The group was bid farewell at a
gathering hosted by Pccten Shell In-
ternational.
Neblett, the son of Duncan and Geor-
gia Neblett of Port Aransas, returned
May 25.

The Cabaret Show is being jump-
started and anyone wanting to partici-
pate is asked to sign up by calling
Willey at 749-5709, or writing him at
P.O. Box 1465, Port Aransas, Tex.,
78373. Participants should notify

The Cabaret Night will be a summer
production and will be presented at
midweek on a date to be announced.
Auditions for Under Milkwood will
be announced soon. It will be pre-
sented in the fall.
