RESOLUTION OF RESPECT
A resolution formally expressing
sympathy on the death of Bro. Joe
B. Hejny was proposed and for-
maUy adopted on motion duty
passed. The resolution follows:
WHEREAS, the sceptre of death
has invaded the home of our Bis-
ter Stacie (Trojacek) Hejny and
has called to life eternal, her hus-
band and Vice President of the
Supreme Lodge SPJST Brother Joe
B. Hejny; and,
WHEREAS, Brother Joe B. Hejny
left surviving him to mourn his
departure, his wife Stacie, his sons
Bili Hejny and Donald Joe Hejny,
his mother Mrs. Annie Hejny, his
grandchildren and other relatives,
a host of friends id i ; igl bors, all
of whom, with all the members of
the Supreme Lodge, desire to re-
cord their sorrow at the death on
May 24th, 1978, of Brother Joe B.
Hejny, esteemed associate v/ho
worked harmoniously and diligent-
ly for the good of the Society for
many years and was elected as Vice
President of the Supreme Lodge
in the 17th Convention in Temple
in 1956 and served in that capacity
until his death on May 24, 1978;
and,
WHEREAS, all members of the
Supreme Lodge SPJST bear willing
testimony that Brother Joe B. Hej-
ny contributed much to the growth
and progress of the Society as
head of the Insurance Department
and that he influenced and en-
riched the Fraternal Benefit Sys-
tem by his good works and high
standards and that he was a good
man who will be missed and re-
membered by his many friends
who mourn his passing.
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED,
that the Supreme Lodge of the
SPJST hereby gives its formal ex»
press i on of sympathy and does
hereby notě in its records the pas-
sing from this life of a loyal mem-
ber, who was esteemed by his asso-
eiates, loved by his friends and
respected by all.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED,
that a copy of this resolution be
tendered to the family as a humble
expression of heartfelt sympathy
in their bereavement; one copy be
sent to the Vestnik for publication;
and one copy be spread on the
minutes of the Supreme Lodge
SPJST.
The members of the Supreme
Lodge stood for a few moments in
silent tribute to the memory of
Brother Joe B. Hejny.
President Morris reported on the
following:
LETTERS — The following letters
were read:
1. A letter from the president of
'the University of Texas at Austin,
acknowledging the $1,000 contribu-
tion from the Society to the De-
partment of Slavic Languages.
2. Acknowledgment from the
family of Joe B. Hejny for expres-
sion of sympathy.
3. A Western Union message from
the grand president of the Catholic
Life Insurance Union, expressing
condolences to the family, officers
and members of the Society on the
death oř Vice President Joe B.
Hejny.
4. A letter from a memfaer ex-
pressing sadness at the death of
Brother Joe B. Hejny.
5. A letter from the grand presi-
dent of the Order of the Sons of
Hermann, extending condolences
to the relatives and friends of Joe
B. Hejny.
6. A letter from several youth
leaders and members commenting
ifavorably on the receint youth
leaders’ retreat.
7. A letter from Mrs. August
(Bettie) Kacíř expressing appre-
ciation for the 50-year pin she
recently received.
8. A. letter from the Society ac-
tuary was read listí ng new per diem
charges effective June 1, 1978. Aft-
er review of the basis of per diem
charges. it was agreed, on motion
duly adopted, to accept the in-
crease in charges.
President Morris announeed that
the Lodge 79 Corpus Christi build-
ing dedication would be held on
August 4, 5, and 6, and that the
Lodge 180 Burleson building dedi-
cation would be held on August 25,
26, and 27.
TRAVELS — President Morris
discussed some of the 14 funetions
he had attended the past quarter.
SPJST HISTORY — The latest
update on the SPJST History cov-
ering the Vllth Convention was
handed to each Supreme Lodge
member by President Morris.
ENNIS SALES SEMINÁŘ — The
seminář recently held on a trial
basis was discussed. Favorable com-
ments were heard.
It was agreed to schedule more

seminars similar to the one held
in Ennis in other areas of the
statě.
STATE FIELD MANAGER —
President Morris reported that he
had received resumes from individ-
uals interested in the position of
statě field manager. It was agreed
that those interested be invited to
appear before the board for an in-
terview.
VACANCY IN OFFICE OF VICE
PRESIDENT — The agenda turned
to filling the vacancy created
by the death of Brother Joe B.
Hejny. The resumes from indiv-
iduals interested in being consid-
ered for appointment for vice
president had been received and
distributed to each Supreme Lodge
member. The matter was discussed
at length.
President Morris was authorized
to attend the upcoming KJT Con-
vention on motion duly adopted.
President Morris’ report was ac-
cepted.
SYD Massey’s written report was
considered.
She stated that two of the judges
at the DYAD in District II had
expressed compliments on the pro-
gram the Society has for the
youth.
She reported on success of a ses-
sion first held in District V giving
the youth opportunity to voice
their opinions about the SPJST
Youth Program and the SPJST.
She stated she would use this pro-
gram in other districts to inform
the youth about the SPJST.
Comments were made on some
problems with the new scoring sys-
tém now in use at the YADs and it
was agreed to evaluate any short-
comings of the new procedures.
SYD Massey’s report was accept-
ed.
Secretary - Treasurer Mikeska
presented a report from the Vice
Presidenťs Department.
Secretary - Treasurer Mikeska
had been designated to be tem-
porarily in charge of the vice
presidenťs department, with the
assistance of the other officers,
after the death of Brother Joe B.
Hejny.
He discussed work progress in
the Insurance Department. He
stated that the extra efforts of .all
the employees in the Insurance
Department were appreciated and
made it possible to keep the work
flowing. He commended all for
