VOLUME 63, NUMBER 28 JULY 16, 1975
FROM THE EDIT0R'$ DESK
Saturday, June 28 was another
memorable day řor the SPJST So-
ciety when it welcomed another
lodge into its fraternal organiza-
tion. Yes, on this beautifui Satur-
day aíternoon, several Supreme
Lodge officers, District III repre-
sentatives, plus city dignitarles
and interested members traveled a
long way to witness and extend a
fraternal handshake to the mem-
bers of Lodge Pinewood Heritage
No, 178, Longview for their Offi-
cial Chartering and Dedicatíon
Ceremonies at the Gregg County
Fair Grounds in Longview, which
is located approximately 60 miles
from the Texas-Louisiana border.
The Bi-Centennial observance
year and the SPJST Society’s 78th
Anniversary (July lst and 4th),
were just ahead, and it was in-
deed appropriate of the lodge’s
members to sehedule this combi-
nation historie event and, at the
same time, open the dooř to nu-
merous new prospects for a larger
membership and progress.
The area of Longview-Kilgore
promises a great future for the
growth of our newest lodge —
Lodge No. 178. The kind, eneourag-
ing and inspiring remarks by
the Mayor of the City of Longview,
the Honora bíle Tommy Carlisle,
and the President of the Longview
Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Eiwing
Adams, leave no doubt that the fu-
ture of Lodge Pinewood Heritage

No. 178 is in a great area of deep
East Texas. Indeed, when you read
SL Více President Joe B. Hejny’s
report in a future issue of the
Věstník, you will see that this lodge
is already on its way and will
gain membership f aster than
many of our long-existing lodges.
Sincerest wishes for Lodge 178’s
success are expressed by our en-
tire Society.

This week’s editorial will be brief
due to the large amount of mail
we háve reeeived the past two
weeks. Since we did not publish an
issue last week there is a back-
log of materiál to be published.
In the Features section you will
find the text of the speeches by
SL President Morris and District
III Director Pokladník delivered at
the Lodge 178 Chartering. Lodge
178 Secretary Janiee Vrana gives
a rather thorough coverage of the
event in the Letters section of this
issue. These reports, plus the
photos by us should give, we feel,
good coverage to the chartering
and dedication.

The next day, Sunday June 29,
we attended the District V YAJD
at Lodge No. 88, Houston. The day
was nice and the YAD was held
in the very hospitable atmosphere
that one always encounters when
Lodge 88 hostsi an event. It was
nice to meet old friends and to
greet new acciuaintances. We hope
to run the pictures taken there
just as soon as space permits,
hopefully in the next issue.
Some reports must be delayed
due to the lack of space this week.
There has been some opinion
expressed that the Society could
get by with the Vestnik being
published twice a month. However,
last week’s deferment of our of-
ficial organ has pointed up the
fact, to us here at the printshop,
and perhaps to some of our readers
and correspondents, that this
would not give us the same high
caliber type of publication we háve
today. The fact, same as in most
anything, is that if you miss a
week, you háve to double up to
catch up!
