CZECHOSLOVAKIAN ARTS FILM
SCHEDULED FOR WHARTON
JUNIOR COLLEGE
An English narrative film show-
ing of Czechoslovakian arts has
been scheduled at the J. M.
Hodges Learning Center on the
campus of Wharton County Jun-
ior College in Wharton, Thursday,
March 20th, at 9:15 a.m. and 7 p.m.
The WCJC Club and the Czech
Fine Arts Society of Texas háve
arranged for the series of techni-
color film reels on the subjects of
composer Antoniu Dvorak, Czech
Baroque Gothic anchitecture, Czech
marionettes and Bohemian crystaí
There is no adminssion charged
and the public is invited.
Richard Urbis
An annoímcement was recently made
that Richard Urbis, 21-years of age of
Robstown, has been accepted for
enrollment in the world-famous Julliard
Sehool of Music in New York City and is
to start his training there in September
of 1975. Richard graduated with a BA
Degree in music from A&I College in
Corpus Christi earlier this year and has
been doing recitál work and continuing
his studies since that time. His most
recent recitals were a*Abilene Christian
College in Abilene and Del Mar Junior
College in Corpus Christi.
His next recitál is scheduled for
Saturday, March 22nd, in Waco in the
Yíoíze Recitál Auditorium at 1210 Lake
Air Dr., at 8 p.m. That recitál is being
sponsored by the Phi Beta Kappa
chapter at McLennan Community
College in Waco. Richard will play
composiíions from Beethoven, Chopin,
Lizt and Ravel.
Richard won SPJST State Talent titles
in 1968 and 1969, has competed in the
Robstown Fine Arts Club, Calallen High
Sehool, Corpus Christi Interschool
Talent Programs, Robstown All-City
Show, Parrie James Foundation
Competition at the University of Corpus
Christi, in each instance winning first
plače. He w'as chosen the Outstanding
Performer in Piano and received a full
1-year seholarship to Del Mar Junior
College., He is also a composer of notě.
having composed and made arrange-
ments of popular tunes from classical
Bach to DeBussy, and last year his
composing talents came to the attention
of noted modern Czech composer from
Prague, Czechoslovakia, Mr. Karel
Husa. He also soloed in playing his own
compositions with the Dallas Symphony
Orchestra in latě 1973, having been one
of three such composers-soloists chos-
en. His acceptance at Julliard is one of
the highest honors a student of music
can achieve in this country and Richard
was accepted after undergoing and
passing numerous qaualifying exam-
inations and interviews.
Richard invites all of his friends in the
SPJST and the generál public to his
concert in Waco on March 22nd.
Needless to say, his parents and family
are all very proud of Richard and his
many accomplishments, He, his
brother David, and sister Joan are all
members of Lodge No. 117, Robstown.
Richard is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Joe F.
Urbish. He is the grandson of Mr. &
Mrs. Anton Mazanec of Waco and Mr.
& Mrs. Harry Urbis of West.
