President Roy Haag (left) of Hill Country Lodge 185, New Braunfels,
presenting plaque to Brother Joe A. Slavik, first president and sales
representative of Lodge 185.
al. Frances said the pain was ter-
rible (much worse than when she
broke her hip seven years ago); it
takés a lot to keep her down. Talk-
ing to her on the phone she sound-
ed very happy and ready to come
to our next Birthday Club gather-
ing.
Della Kadlecek, our Birthday
Club president, also has a busy
time visiting her kinfolks in hos-
pitals. Her daughter-in-law, Ruby,
married to Johnnie Kadlecek, had
surgery in Northwest Memoriál
Hospital; she was admitted Friday,
March 17th, and was released on
Easter Sunday and now is recup-
erating at Splendora, where her,
mother, Mrs. Young, will see to it
that Rubjy gets the rest she needs
and as the doctor prescribed. Ruby
and Johnnie háve two lively sons,
Kavin and Craig, and they will
keep grandmother Young busy, for
sure. Also Della’s brother, Charles
Jalufka, is in the Veterans Hospit-
al for three weeks now with a
broken knee which he has in trac-
tion and it will be at least another
three weeks foefore Charles will be
released. Best of health to both.
The operetta “Romance of a
Beautiful Gypsy” is something
weli worth looking forward to. This
performance will be presented
Sunday, April 23rd. Rehearsals are
in full swing and the participants
háve their hearts in this beautiful
operetta. Staging a Czech perform-
ance these days, as most of us
know, is unique and we are the only
dramatic group in Texas attempt-
ing to present at least one Czech
performance a year for our re-
maining Czech public. You younger
generation out there who still
háve parents who treasure a pre-
sentation in their native language,
sacrifice one Sunday, April 23rd,
and give your parents a treat and
bring them out. Most of our people
do not drive long distances and
they would appreciate a treat from
you to spend a pleasant few hours
to listen to Cteech melodies and
meet old friends again. Mark your
calendar for April 23rd.
Sunday, April 30th will be our
annual Blue Room party, which is
always speciál. Again this year it
will be a tácky party, since it was
enjoyed very much last year, and
everyone had lots of fun. Tickets
are obtainable in the Blue Room
or the Office. Nat, the pleasant
bartender, and the sisters in the
office will gladly serve you with
the tickets, $5 per person. This will
give you an evening of cocktails,
from 4 p.m., dinner and dancing
throughout the evening with a good
orchestra, until 9 p.m., for those
age 18 and over. This also requires
a mark on the ole’ calendar for
April 30th!
Fraternally,
Frances Olexa
