Bear Members and Friends:
On Sunday, July I7th, we will be
celebrating St. Ann’s Day with a de-
licious beef and chicken barbecue, fol-
lowed by a free gymnastic program
and free dance. The eelebration is a
custorn of the Czech people, whereby
all persons of the given name of Ann
or Anna hold an observance. This cus-
tom is similar to our present celebra-
tion of bírthdays. For this occasion all
VĚSTNÍK
persons named Ann will be given gifts
as a remembrance of their speciál day.
Our gymnasts háve been putting in
many hours of clrill and will be show-
ing the new trieks they háve perfect-
ed during the winter múnths. You will
be entertained with the music of a
well-known musician, W. W. Heinsohn,
and his seven-piece orchestra. Come by
and spend a day with lis.
The plans for our new gym are al-
most completed. A pian of the build-
ing is posted at the Club and we invite
5all to preview the pian. The archi-
tectural scheme follows semi-contem-
porary lineš, with a 70-fdot front of
glass so that activities inside can be
vísible from the. outside and which
acts as an inducement for individuals
to want to join the crowd. The front
of the building is 122 feet wide and
will be accentuated with a 12 foot lob-
by and a •court yard. The building is
actually three structures, joined un-
der one roof to give compatibility of
design. The originál pian of a two-
story building has been amended to a
single story structure with a private
dressing and shower room for the
gymnasts. The bar and kitchen are
easily accessible from the gym or the
outside patio to give rapid and even
ílow of serving lineš.
Many problems of architectural de-
sign had to be resolved due to the
height required for a gymnasium. It
had to be high enough to allow for
giant swings on the horizonal bar and
the building had to be designed so
that it would háve the pleasing ap-
pearance of a ballroom. Áccessibility of
gym equipment and kitchen and mar
facilities had to be considered. All
these problems were evaluated in the
light of comfort, with a significant
factor being the price. Each inch of
floor had to be considered and recon-
sidered to prevent wasted space. It is
our belief that all the problems háve
been effectively resolved and we will
be getting an excellent building for a
conservative price. Our need for loans
is still present and these loans are
urgently needed before the building is
started. The price of the gym will be
greater than originally anticipated and
your assistance is invited.
We hope to see all of yoií Sunday,
especially all those named Ann or
Anna.
Nazdar!
