The ornaments of our house are the
friends that frequent it
—Ralph Waldo Emerson
For young and old, this is the most
joyous season, and Christmas is. the
most magical day of all the year. In
many a home, and school, and church,
the old Christmas carols will ring out.
Onee again, as the Christmas season
xolls around, the National Board of
Fire Underwriters reminds people from
coast to cast to use care with fire this
Christmas season. When the Christmas
trne is selected, let it be a smáli tree,
if possible. Smáli trees are just as
Christmasy as largei trees, and they
are safer, for there is less of them
to burn should a fire occur. When mom
and the children are choosing Christ-
nias tree ornaments, let them choose
fire-safe ones. When the family sets up
the Christmas tree, háve father look.
around and put the tree in plače
where it will not block an, exit. In
decorating, check all strings of electric
lights to make sure that the cords are
not frayed.
If possible, stand the tree in water,
for this will retard drying. And if jun-
•ior’s electric train is to ]pe set up as
a part of the Christmas display, the
train should be put in some plače
other than inider the tree. ’
When Christmas arrives and pres-
ents are opened, mom and the girls
should carefuily fold away gift wrap-
pings to be saved for future use, ahd
discard the other wrappings promptly.
Remember to turn out the Christmas
tree lights when away from home. From
tinie to time during the holiday season
inspect the tree to see whether any of
the needles near the lights háve start-
ed to turn brown. If so change the po-
sition of the lights.
Remember, a fire-safe Christmas is
a merry Christmas. Keep your Christ-
mas merry.
