Thieves steal from Grace House
Copper wire and $900 worth of new household goods taken from halfway house
By Pearl Cantrell
Monitor Staff Writer
TOOL-What kind of
people steal from a transi-
tional facility to help the
once incarcerated build a
new life?
That’s what investiga-
tors at the Henderson
County Sheri IT’s Office are
asking as they try to find
those who stole around
$900 worth of new mer-
chandise lovingly placed in
Grace House on State
Highway 274 in Tool
sometime between Dec. 1-
7.
The thieves also stripped
the copper wiring from the
facilities air conditioner and
took all the computer ac-
cessories, including a mo-
dem.
On the premises were
also tools to finish out bath-
rooms, flooring and doors.
Though the building sup-
plies are still there, the
tools are gone.
“It looks like they just
picked up anything that
could be stuffed in a big
garbage sack and took it
away,” Grace House ex-
ecutive director Jeff
Reynolds told The Moni-
tor T uesday.
Several churches and
community groups have
partnered with the Chris-
tian Life Center Church of
Gun Barrel City to open
Grace House to answer a
need of women in Hend-
erson County who are try-
ing to rebuild their lives af-
ter run-ins with the law.
The group held an open
house Nov. 1 and are still
planning to open to its first
occupants in January
2013.
“They can’t take our
peace or our joy,”
Reynolds said. “God
knows who they are. He
will get ’em.”
The Grace House board
of directors were meeting
Wednesday to discuss
how they were going to
replace dishes, toasters,
coffee makers, pots and
pans, cutlery, kitchen uten-
sils, kitchen linens, and fur-
nishings for twin beds.
In the meantime, a fire
and security system is be-
ing installed. “We’re going
to put an end to it (burglar-
ies),” Reynolds said.
Anyone wishing to
make a tax-deductible
monetary' gift can send it to
Grace House of Cedar
Creek Lake, PO Box
43012, Seven Points, TX
75143.
If you think you can help
in other ways, please call
(903) 887-5429 or (469)
644-6254.
Anyone who has infor-
mation that could help in-
vestigators in solving this
crime may call anony-
mously at 1-800-545-
