owler completes the basics of
county investments course
AUSTIN — Honorable Daryl
Fowler, DeWitt County Judge, has
completed the Basics of County In-
vestments Course presented by the
Texas Association of Counties.
The course meets the educational
requirements of the Texas Public
Funds Investment Act and includes
presentations on products and serv-
ices in the public funds markets and
updates on the latest laws and strate-
gies. Course topics include how to
put together an investment policy, al-
lowable investment options, how to
manage the various types of risk and
how to compute investment yields.
Course graduates are in a better posi-
tion to ensure the safety of principal,
portfolio liquidity and appropriate
returns — three key areas of concern
for county investments.
This training is required for mem-
bership in TAC’s County Investment
Academy. The academy provides in-
vestment education through a variety
of conferences and workshops.
Through the training, attendees have
access to accurate, in-depth informa-
tion as well as a network of experi-
enced county investors from across
the state. The overall objective of the
program is to safeguard public funds
through the introduction of modem
operational techniques that provide
the county with appropriate yield
from taxpayer dollars. The McCoy
College of Business Administration
at Texas State University is a cooper-
ative partner with TAC in producing
the basics course and in mnning the
TAC County Investment Academy.
TAC began its public investing edu-
cational program in 1992. It remains
one of the premier programs of its
kind in the country.
