Kitty Kats rally short at semi-finals
By Tim O’Malley
Yorktown News-View
Yorktown coach Deirdre
Alexander made every
attempt to approach this
game no different than any
other but this was not like
any other game. There was
more at stake and the Kitty
Kats knew it.
In 2012 Yorktown
played against the Burton
Lady Panthers in the semi-
finals and lost in three
games. This was the Kats
opportunity of “true
redemption.”
Earlier in the season
Coach Alexander said,
“We want to say that we
are better than the first
game of the season.”
The test of time held
true for Yorktown as they
played each and every
game like it was their last.
However, in the fourth
game with the score of 23-
lb, Emily Guerrero knew,
with tears running down
her face, that their hopes
of winning regional semi-
final will have to hold
until next year after losing
to Burton in four.
Coach Alexandra admit-
ted after defeating Ben
Bolt, “It’s playoff and
there is a lot of emotion.”
In the first game against
Burton the Kitty Kats
found themselves behind
8-3. Mistakes were costing
them points. Coach
Alexander called time out
trying to help them to
overcome the nerves and
the shakes. Burton contin-
ued to extend their lead
11-5. Sam Neiineier then
