The priceless birthright of every
American Is freedom of religion.
The founders of our nation guar-
anteed the right of every man to
worship Ood according td the dic-
tates of his conscience.
This freedom, of course, Includes
the "right*’ not to worship Ood.
The unfolding history of our re-
public has revealed the shocking
truth that many of Its citizens have
hugged this latter freedom to their
breast.
Freedom of religion has In many
cases become freedom from reli-
gion. Seventy million Americans
profess no religious creed of any
kind. Seventeen million American
children are growing up with no
religious training whatever.
The average Sunday, traditional-
ly a day of worship and prayer,
finds one hundred million Amer-
icans flouting the Church by Ig-
noring Its ministrations.
