Texas, on Satur-
day, April 20,
2013, the compe-
tition consisted of
personál interviews with three judges,
an onstage interview and question re-
lated to the contestanťs desires to cel-
ebrate and preserve their heritage, a
kroj modeling session, and a talent
competition.
Miss Koll, from Lewisville, Texas,
will now go on to compete for the title
of Miss Czech-Slovak US Queen in
Wilber, Nebraska, in August.
Congratulations to Jennifer Koll
who is a shining example of Texas
Czech heritage. Jennifer is a member
of SPJST Lodge 189, Bryan-College
Station.

Czech Youth
and Family Day
set for June 22
The 2013 Czech Youth and Family
Day will be held on Saturday, June 22,
2013, at Texas Czech Heritage and
Culture Center in La Grange, Texas.
Hosted by the Czech Heritage Society
of Texas and TCHCC, the event in-
cludes a tour of the new Music Mu-
seum and the Salaš Home in the
moming for those who háve never
been. Additionally, pian to meet new
Miss Texas Czech-Slovak Queen and
other queens in attendance in Hanslik
Halí. Christiana Gentry will give us a
presentation on her recent adventure
and travel to the Czech Republic and
we will also introduce the three- to
four-generation families in attendance
before lunch, if time permits.
After lunch, we will háve a demon-
stration of strudel making and ‘Per-
nicky’ ginger cookie decorating which
will become part of our desserts. Later
in the aftemoon, we will háve two ses-
sions going on at the same time. The
Dulcimer group will be back to teach
the children how to play the instru-
ment, and we will also háve a egg dec-
orating session. Each group will be
able to go to both. Other activities may
include a doll making demonstration
for the girls and tarocky instmction for
the boys. We may end the day with
dancing lessons, time permitting.
The program is recommended for
any children from five to 15 years of
age and naturally the whole family is
encouraged to attend. Registration will
begin at 9:30 a.m., and activities begin
around 10 a.m. We ask for your help
in supervising the children while on the
tour and during the rest of the day to
prevent any accidental damage to
buildings and their often-fragile con-
tents. Lunch will be available.

our Ancestors:
CHS sets summer
statě meeting
Our 2013 Summer State Meeting
and Genealogical Conference will také
plače on Saturday, July 20, 2013, in
Hallettsville, Texas. Hosted by the
Lavaca County Chapter, the event will
be held in the American Legion Halí -
Hudgeons Post 230 on 107 East Park
Street. The theme this year is “Map-
ping our Ancestors.” Presentations in-
clude ways to use local records to find
missing places, early Czech settle-
ments, archives and records at the
Texas General Land Office, and Czech
convenience Stores in Texas.
Activities will start bright and early
at 8 a.m. with registration and conver-
sations with fellow members over ko-
lache and coffee. Vendors will háve
their booths set up for everyone to visit,
and the silent auction will also be on
display. As always, také some time to
visit the CHS Travelling library, too.
At 9 a.m., ceremonies begin with in-
troductions, and the seminars start
shortly afterward. With a break at 12
noon for lunch, followed by the statě
meeting, the conference seminars con-
tinue until 4 p.m. Please come join us
in Hallettsville in July for the leaming
experience and fun-filled day.
