tion, contact Farry (361) 687-7125.

“Groovy Seventies” and include enter-
tainment from DJ Arnold Medina with

July 20 Gala to Benefit
West Benevolence Fund
The West Benevolence Fund was
established by SPJST on Apríl 18 —
the day after a mas sivé fertilizer explo-
sion rocked the Central Texas city of
West. Two months háve passed and, as
expected, the media fanfare has sub-
sided. Even so, dozens of homes near
the plant remain vacant or háve
boarded-up Windows as families work
to repair the damage caused by the ex-
plosion that sprayed debris as far as
two-and-a-half miles away from the
plant. The blast destroyed 150 homes
and buildings, injured 200 people, and
killed 15, including 12 first responders
who were working to put out the fire.
Initial response, primarily, from
SPJST members and lodges in support
of the West Benevolence Fund has
been gratifying. To dáte, more than
$39,000 has been received. A commit-
tee consisting of the presidents of the
four West-area SPJST lodges has been
working to identify projects needing at-
tention and submitting requests to the
SPJST Home Office for the disburse-
ment of funds contributed to the West
Benevolence Fund. The first check is-
sued was in the amount of $3,937 and
was presented to West Sokol to enable
the gymnastics club to purchase needed
equipment that was lost when their
building was destroyed. Additional re-
building and support projects are being
considered by the West Benevolence
Fund Committee for assistance.
SPJST is partnering with lodges,
members, and friends of the Society to
host the West Gala on Saturday, July 20
at Seaton Star Halí, courtesy of SPJST
Fodge 47, Seaton. Proceeds will bene-
fit West Benevolence Fund. Tickets for
the event are $50 each and will cover
an enjoyable evening of dining and en-
tertainment. Your $50 ticket also enti-
tles you to one chance in the drawing.
Grand prize will be a trip for two —
transportation and lodging — to the
Czech Republic fumished by V2 In-
centives. Other prizes include five
$250 Visa gift cards courtesy of RVOS
Insurance (2),Gulf Coast Claims Serv-
ice (2), and Purifoy and Company In-
surance (1). To reserve your tickets,
please contact Debbie Klinkovsky at
the SPJST Home Office at (254) 773-
1575.
Slovacek’s Sausage will be fumish-
ing a delicious barbecue dinner. Musi-
cal entertainment is being provided by
The Ennis Polka Boys and Fritz Hodde
and the Fabulous Six. Master of cere-
monies for the evening will be Alfred
Vrážel, host of the long-running
Vrazels’ Polka Show. We’re also in the
proces s of collecting merchandise for
the li ve auction, silent auction, and
bucket drawings that will be held on
the night of the West Gala. For more in-
formation on how to give an item or to
schedule a pick-up, please contact Deb-
