SPJST Lodge 20, Granger
*SpJST announced its 2009
membership program last
week. Heritage ’09: SPJST—
Czech Us Out! is the theme, and
the program will include a
strong emphasis on families.
“Evaluating
current members’
coverage and re-
cruiting family of
current members
will be one of our
focuses in 2009,”
Supreme Lodge
Vice President
Gene McBride
says. “Getting
back to our roots
and recognizing
100 percent
SPJST families
and generations of
SPJST members
will be another
focus.”
The program
includes incen-
tives for members,
lodges, lodge offi-
cers, youth clubs,
and sales agents.
Heritage ’0$
Lodge incentive awards will be
based primarily upon the number of
applications issued, says Vice Presi-
dent McBride.
The SPJST Insurance Depart-
ment will maintain all membership
recruitment records, and progress re-
ports will be posted monthly in the
Vestnik.
Parts of the 2009 membership pro-
gram are outlined below and on page
four. SPJST Home Office represen-
tatives will present complete program
details at lodges
and youth clubs
around the statě.
The statewide
goal for SPJST is
3.150 applica-
tions issued for
the year January
1, 2009, through
December 31,
2009. This num-
ber reflects a five
percent increase
over the 2008
goal. SPJST
must meet the
3.150 applica-
tions issued goal
before any of the
incentives listed
are awarded.

r. Pavel Slampa is a cancer
specialist and is a professor at the Uni-
versity of Bmo in the Czech Repub-
lic. He li ves in Kyjov about 35 miles
from Brno. A breast cancer sympo-
sium in San An-
tonio brought
him to Texas in
December. So,
on the weekend
of December 13
and 14, 2008, he
honored us with
a visit.
On Saturday
morning, De-
cember 13,
Brady Pasemann
of Lodge 29,
Taylor and his
daughter Cather-
ine and son
Matthew drove
to San Antonio to
escort Pavel to Taylor to visit his
Texas cousins. The first stop was at
the home of Jerry W. and Carol Tallas
who hosted a barbecue in PaveTs
honor. Jerry presented Pavel with a
goodie package that SPJST Supreme
Lodge President Brian Vaniček from
Temple assembled for Dr. Slampa.
Dr. Slampa brought several bottles of
slivovice and other items to share with
us, and we in turn had gifts for him.
Those attending Jerry and Carol Tal-
las ’ barbecue were Lrances Tallas,
Adam Tallas, Cindy (Tallas) Buzan
and Greg Buzan, all members of
Lodge 29; Geraldine Tallas Heisch
and Doris and Johnnie Volcik, all of
Lodge 20, Granger; Barbara and Do-
minie Polášek and some friends,
Jimmy Heap, III
and Blake Heap
of Lodge 29.
After the bar-
becue, we took
Pavel to a Christ-
mas music pro-
gram at the
Granger Brethren
Church in
Granger where
he was amazed to
hear the Taylor
Czech Choms ac-
tually singing
Christmas hymns
in Czech as well
as hearing many
of the older gen-
eration still
speaking the Czech language! Pavel
took many, many pictures and a video
of the music program.
Dr. Slampa spent the night at my
house in Granger where he met my
youngest son Roddy Heisch, his wife
Denise, and their son David from
Houston. The next morning, Roddy
took Pavel to the Granger Cemetery
to show him where my husband
