successfully enrolled new members.

ber enrolled, the recommender will
receive a certificate for Five Gold Dollars
which can be redeemed for really great
SPJST imprinted Centennial items.
3) The top five recommenders will
receive cash prizes.

Educating Our Sales Force
We will work hard to provide first-
class training and information to our sales
representatives. Area classes will be held
quarterly. We are in the early stages of an
ambitious goal to qualify a large number
of sales representatives for the Fraternal
Insurance Counselor (FIC) designation*
To encourage this excellent professional
training program, the Supreme Lodge
will pay the entire cost of the course of
studies for any sales representative who
successfully completes the program. We
are serious about providing professional
service to our members.
Insurance Products
We háve a line of really competitive
insurance products. One of our most
popular plans continues to be Universal
Life because of the flexibility it provides.
Another popular pian is our ModTerm for
those who desire temporary or highly
economical coverage. The Senior Life
has proven to be the certificate of choice
for the over age 50 group. We are cur-
rently working on updating two products.

Let me share a brief sum máry of our
1996 sales results. We wrote 1,487 appli-
cations for over $45 million of insurance.

for 1997 is 1897 members for $47.5 mil-
lion.

We extend our appreciation and our
heartiest congratulations to our sales rep-
resentatives on their achievement!
There are many people involved in the
successful operation of the SPJST. I
appreciate the many members with key
roles in the SPJST. I appreciate the
Supreme Lodge, the Sales
Representatives, and the Home Office
Staff. I recognize the efforts of my assis-
tant, Kathy Fritz; Ruth Hanusch in
underwriting and support staff Doris
Tyroch, Cynthia Bravenec, and Lisa
Kirby. I appreciate the commitment of
State Field Manager Gene McBride and
Field Representatives Helen Hegwood,
Keith Gatewood, Jim Wiest, and Jerry
Kučera.
Sincerely and fraternally,

ries. In addition to the claims of
$2,650,433.00 on regular certificates an
additionai $492,933 was paid to the ben-
eficiaries of annuities. Some of these
beneficiaries háve redeposited their death
claím benefits in annuities in their own
name.
The Society continues to háve a few
endowment certificates still in force.
There were sixty-seven endowments paid
during 1996 for a total benefit of
$88,478.00.
The amount paid to the members sur-
rendering their certificates was less in
1996 than in 1995. This is due to a com-
bination of the Vice Presidenťs and
Secretary-Treasureťs departments trying
to conserve the certificates. Some of the
members háve taken loans instead of sur-
rendering their certificate and other
members háve ušed their cash value to
purchase paid-up certificates. The
amount paid in total and partial surren-
ders of both the regular life products and
the Universal Life products amounted to
$582,937.45.
A member can borrow against his or
her certificate, provided that the certifi-
cate has a cash value. The interest rate
on a certificate loan can be either 5 per-

In July 1997, the Society will be cele-
brating our lOOth Anniversary. This is an
accomplishment that
each and every mem-
ber can také pride in.
There are only a few
organizations that can
boast of being in
business for 100
years. This accom-
plishment has been
reached due primari-
ly to the hard work of
the SPJST members
— members working
together to “ensure
the financial security
of its members and
its fraternal commit-
ment to the commu-
nities where SPJST
members live and

ance with the By-Laws, I am submitting
the following information.
