Archer County
Sheriffs
Weekly Report
BY SHERIIFF STACI BEESINGER
Windthorst Junior
High & High School
The Archer County Sheriff’s
Office received 120 Calls for
Service during the past 7 day
period. On the day of this report
there were 25 people in jail con-
sisting of 21 men and 4 women.
Read below for details of some
of the calls received.
On Monday afternoon, an Ar-
cher County resident reported
that he was assaulted by a male
subject when he went to pick up
some belongings at his former
residence. The man told officers
that he and his wife were in the
process of getting a divorce and
he had gone to the residence
to get his personal belongings.
While at the residence, his
soon to be ex-wife’s boyfriend
showed up and assaulted him.
Both men had left the residence
when officers arrived. An as-
sault warrant for the boyfriend
is pending the outcome of the
investigation.
On Tuesday afternoon, a fe-
male motorist reported that
someone driving a white Ford
pickup pulling a trailer had
run her off the road on US 281
near the Wichita Livestock Sale
Bam. She told officers that the
driver of the pickup stopped
to check on her but would not
give her any of his information.
She advised that she had no
visible damage to her vehicle
but that the vehicle was hard
to steer since the incident. The
woman was able to give officers
the license plate registration of
the pickup. A DPS Trooper re-
sponded to work the incident as
an accident.
On Wednesday evening, a
Windthorst man reported that
his vehicle was damaged as it
sat on his property at his resi-
dence. He told officers that he
saw his ex-girlfriend leaving
the property and later found a
note attached to the damaged
vehicle. Evidence was obtained
from the scene and a warrant
of arrest for Criminal Mischief
will be issued for the woman’s
arrest.
Around 3pm on Thursday af-
ternoon, Lakeside and Bowman
1st responders, deputies, and a
DPS Trooper responded to a
two vehicle accident on Hwy
79 near the Lakeside City East
entrance. At least one vehicle
was towed by wrecker from the
scene. Medical personnel re-
sponded but it turned out there
were no injuries in the accident.
Driver inattention was a factor
in the accident.
Around 5 am on Friday morn-
ing, a resident on Carter Rd re-
ported that her ex-boyfriend had
unlawfully entered her home
while she was sleeping. The
woman told officers that she had
changed locks on the residence
doors to prevent the man from
entering the property. She said
she woke up and he was inside
her home wanting his stuff. The
man left when she told him she
was calling the Sheriff’s Office.
Evidently, the man still pos-
sessed a key to enter through a
garage door. The incident has
been logged in a report for fu-
ture reference.
On Friday between noon and
7pm, 6 accidents were reported
in Archer County due to inclem-
ent weather conditions. Wichita
County reported over 80 acci-
dents on Friday. Three of those
accidents occurred on US 82,
one in Baylor Co that Archer
Co deputies and Holliday 1st
responders assisted with. Two
accidents were reported on US
281, one of those with injuries.
Only one accident was reported
on Hwy 79 that involved a ve-
hicle running through a fence.
Several reports of power lines
and transformers sparking were
received as well and forwarded
to ONCOR. No fires were re-
ported.
On Saturday night, deputies
responded several times to com-
plaints of loud music at a wed-
ding party being held at the KC
Hall in Scotland. Since the hall
was rented by the occupants for
a party a reasonable amount of
noise was expected. Officers
warned the occupants on two oc-
casions to keep the noise down.
On the third response Officers
shut down the party and told all
occupants to leave. As the occu-
pants were leaving, a fight broke
out between members of the
band and some of the people in
attendance which sent one man
to a Wichita Falls hospital for
treatment. Officers were break-
ing up this fight when they were
notified of a major accident in
the Scotland area which claimed
the life of a Windthorst man.
Just after lam on Sunday
morning, a Windthorst man re-
ported that he and his brother
had been involved in a one vehi-
cle rollover accident on Hilbers
Rd in the Scotland area. The
man reported that his brother
was unresponsive and needed
help. He also reported that he
and his brother had been at the
above party in Scotland just
prior to the accident. Officers
and medical personnel arrived
on scene and attempts to revive
the man were unsuccessful. He
was pronounced deceased at the
scene by Pet. 4 Justice of the
Peace Wayne Lindemann.
The Sheriff’s Imnate Work
Crew was scheduled to deco-
rate the Courthouse lawn with
Christmas decorations last week
but plans fell through due to
the inclement weather. That has
been rescheduled for one day
this week.

News from the Humane
Society of Wichita County
BY JAN HERZOG, BOARD MEMBER
Pet of the Week
Well, it’s not quite Thanksgiv-
ing yet, but at the Humane So-
ciety of Wichita County we are
already looking forward to our
BIG Christmas adoption event!
Shelter Director Cheryl Miller
and her staff have hatched a
plan that sounds like so much
fim. Saturday, December 21st,
the shelter will be open from 11
a.m. until midnight for adop-
tions and visitors. We are go-
ing to decorate and light up
the whole place and we will
have festive Christmas mu-
sic playing. The animals will
even have their own stockings
“hung with care” in hopes that
many Santas will fill them with
donations! We will be serving
hot chocolate, eggnog, cookies
and snacks to sweeten the deal.
There is even a rumor that old
St. Nick himself will put in an
appearance - we hope he will
stick around long enough to get
in some adoption photos!
Watch for our flyers around
town with more news about this
event. We will also have infor-
mation on Facebook and in the
media because we are hoping
for MANY good adoptions for
the “good little dogs and cats”
who deserve a home for the hol-
idays and forever.
Events like this are just one
way we are trying to think “out-
side the box” and increase adop-
tions and awareness of the plight
of homeless animals. We hope
to see you ALL there, either to
adopt, walk dogs, pet kitties, do-
nate money or supplies, or just
say hi!
When planning your year-end
giving, also remember our trans-
port program, which is saving a
record number of Texas dogs.
You can donate via Paypal on
our website, which is humane-
society ofwichitacounty.org or
you can mail a check to us at
HSWC, P. O. Box 3648, Wich-
ita Falls, TX 76301. Be sure to
note either on Paypal or on your
check that it’s for the Transport/
Rescue program.
With these cold temperatures,
we want to remind everyone that
pets are safer, happier and much
more comfortable in the house
with the rest of the family. How-
ever, if you do have outside pets,
or know others who do, please
make sure they have adequate
shelter, as required by state law.
A doghouse should be up off the
ground a few inches and should
be faced away from the wind.
Straw or other clean bedding
should be provided. Outside
cats should also be provided
warm, snug houses. Extra food
is required in cold weather as
the animals bum extra calories
just keeping warm.
Please have your pets “fixed”
and also make it a priority to
help others to do the same.
P.E.T.S. Low Cost Spay and
Neuter Clinic (723-PETS) can
make it affordable if money is
an issue.
Our pet of the week is the
sweet Pebbles, an adorable six-
year-old female terrier mix who
would love to be in a home be-
fore the holidays!
Shelter hours are 11 to 6 Mon-
day-Saturday and 1 to 4 on Sun-
days. Our phone is 855-4941.

the third, only to drop that set
23-25. But the powerful hitting
duo of sisters Megan (senior)
and Brittany Hohlt (sopho-
more), along with all-around
player Brook Conley, had a big
hand in that. These three led
the Cubettes to top Windthorst
in three, 10-25, 20-25, 23-25.
Windthorst placed sophomore
Breann Schreiber on the All-
Tournament team. All State
honors will be announced later.
Senior Brooke Dillon de-
scribed it as, “A big difference
between yesterday and today.
Jewett Leon had a lot more hang
time and Carmine had quick
sets. They were already there
and hitting it so we had to adjust
our blocking,” and their adjust-
ments simply weren’t enough.
Coach Wolf added, “They con-
centrated on our shorter block,
and with Roundtop’s quick arm
swing our kids couldn’t adjust
to going up with a hitter of that
particular type. Those two girls
(the Hohlt sisters) were on fire
and we could not defend against
them at all. We couldn’t get our
passing down, we could not run
our offense, then when we did
get a good pass we didn’t do
very well with our setting and
our setting choices.”
Abby Wolf shared, “It’s one
of those games where we played
bad today, and you just hope
you never play this bad at the
state championship game. It just
happens.” Coach Wolf quickly
added, “and once again it was
because the other team was very
well-prepared.”
One could argue many fac-
tors that may have contributed
to the loss, even considering
Windthorst played an intense
five-game match the day before,
whereas Round-Top Carmine
escaped after only three intense
sets to reach the final match.
But whatever the case, the book
is written, the medals are hung,
and the Windthorst Trojanettes,
along with their school and
community, can hold their heads
high.
“After a five-year drought
and being so close so many
times, we knew at the begin-
ning of the year it was going to
be tough. We worked every day
for this,” Coach Wolf stated, and
added with a grin, “If this is the
worst thing in your life, getting
second in state... well.”
Second in state is impres-
sive by any means, but no doubt
Coach Wolf will return to the
gym next year with her team of
gold-hungry Trojanettes.
