Last Friday afternoon as John Do-
lan and his daughter, Mrs. Vi. It.
(airwin, and her little son wrrr driv-
ing into Stilr* he started to ku<>< k
the ashes out ol his pipe, lost con-
trol of the steer ing wind ran into a
ditch, threw the lady and son out
through the wind shield, broke the
ear up pretty badly, but didn’t hurt
the occupant*. They had to stay at
the hotel till Monday waiting for
repair* and for the snow to settle.
Ed Wagner and Lawrence Delavan
expert mechanic* of Hi;; Lake spent
Sunday in Stiles doing society.
A. F. Boyd and daughter, Mary
Beth, have returned from Alpine.
ilily Boyd and Mrs. Will Likins
are the guests at the Boyd ranch.
Jim Worn!, Mrs. Joe Belcher's
brother, i* visiting his brother and
sister in Phoenix, Arizona.
Mr*. Norma Irby entertained some
of the Still’s young people at her
home Sunday night. Cream, cake
and candy were served. It was pro-
nounced delicious by all as Mis. Irby
makes no other kind. Those present
were Misses Susan, Arli'so and Viola
Belcher, Culiver Jackson and Joe
Llliott of Big Lake and Newt Wul-
kins of Texon.
On account of heavy snows Ben
Frazier was unable to go to his work
at Texon Monday.
Roadman Morris of Big Lake was
over Wednesday looking after thy
road business at Stiles.
Boh Shelton is on the sick list this 1 (irissett,

Tuesday on business.
J. L. Breco spent Monday and
Tuesday in Sun Angelo.
Mrs. Thornton Stewart and daugh-
ter, Eugenia, were Best visitors Mon-
day afternoon.
F. G. Brantley was called to San
Angelo Saturday on account of the
death of his wife who had been in a
sanitarium there for some time.
Mrs. W. B. Wentherby was in Big
Lake Tuesday on business.
Jack Ferguson has bad a carpen-
ter employed the last few days re-
modeling the store in order to give
them more room, as Mr. Ferguson
intends to increase bis stock in gen-
eral and will carry a complete line
of general merchandise.

ported that five employes of this
concern went bunting Thursday, got
lost and did not arrive borne until

C. W. Bassett returned Tuesday

the order of De Molay “The Junior
Masonic Lodge.” He was accom-
panied by bis brother, Thornton, Jr.

ber.
Levi Smith, manager of the Big
Lake Oil C.o., returned Tuesday from
Pittsburgh, Pa., where he has been
since the first ol the year on busi-
ness.
Mr. Altwater of Pittsburgh, Pa.,
is here on business.
While enjoying a bob-sled ride
Sunday afternoon with several other
ladies, Mrs. George Raphael was
thrown off the sled and sustained a
few painful hut not serious bruises.
She states she is ready to go again
the next snow we have.
On her way out from Best Mon-
day Mrs. Howard had quite an ex-
citing experience. lie car skidded
into the ditch on the railroad cross-
ing just a* a freight train was pulling
into Texon. Tearing the car was
on the main track she was badly
frightened. The car lain proved to
he on the siding and the train had
clear passage. Mrs. Howard’s car
was slightly damaged but was pulled
out of the ditch by Bruce Lvuns who
came to her rescue, and she drove
hack to Best. Mrs. Stewart and
daughter, Eugenia, were with Mrs.
Howard.
Miss Mollie Gicv, regular nurse at
Texon Hospital was culled to San
Angelo 'I uesdav on ueeount of the
death of her father.
W'hili* working on a lank W. J.
Big Lake Oil Go. employee,
was slight I v overcome by the gas.
He was rushed to the hospital where
he is doing nicely and will he uhle
to leave in a few days.
Charlie Mullen, who has been ill
for the past week, is greatly im-
proved.
Mrs. H. C. Downs returned Wed-
nesday from San Angelo.
Mrs. Bruce Hitts* Kindergarten
class is doing some real nice work
for little tots. At present they are
working on u picture i hart which
Mrs. Hitt means to exhibit to the
mothers at an early date.
There is Union Sunday School at
the school house every Sunday at 10
o’clock. Everyone cordially invited
Mrs. Pat Hitt, Mrs. L. G. Thomp-
son, and Mrs. Jack Burnett enjoyed
a bob-sled ride to Big Lake and re-
turn Sunday afternoon.
BARNHART NEWS
We were visited hv the biggest
snow in years Triduv night continu-
ing to snow all dav Saturday and up
until Saturday night. It was esti-
mated that from I ’ to it* inches of
snow ahd fallen.
The stockmen in this vicinity seem
to he greatlv elated over this ns it
insures an nhqndancc
which will mean lots
attic and sheep in thr
apartments. Many of the large
number who wanted apartments are
to Im- disappointed.
On last Saturday morning a heavy
snow was found on the ground. Con-
tinued eflort of the tiny snow flakes
•oon covered all the effects of black
gummy oil and so Santa Itita was
transformed into a new and heautilul
little camp. However the poison gas
was switched on hy mistake causing
many red eyes and headaches.
Mrs. Carl Cromwell entertained
many ol h*-r numerous friends on last
Tuesday night with a charming and
beautiful dinner dance. The five
lovclv courses was brought to end
hy little drill busses of coffee. 'The
I exon or< lu stra furnished their usual
good music until about 12 :.i0 o’clock.
The dance was given in honor of Mr.
Cromwell’s birthday anniversary.
Many beautiful gilts were received,
among which wa> a beautiful white
gold watch chain and Masonic watch
fob, a gilt from the camp. The eve-
ning was very pleasant and enjoyed
by all.
Mr. Travis Sterns arrived Sunday
from T.l Paso. Mrs. Stems remained
in l.l Paso to finish out until mid-
term her position in the T.l Paso
Schools. Mr. Sterns is employed by
the Texon Oil and Land Co.
Mrs. Mike Griifith entertained the
Santa Rita Bridge Club at Texon on
last Wednesday. Her beautiful little
home was verv attractive and a pleas-
ure to he in. Mrs. David W orkman
received the highest score lor club,|
and received a beautiful and dainty |
prize. High guest pri/.e went to Mrs.!
Trank Kopp of Best. (!ut pri/.r went
to Mrs. Crawford. A dainty course]
of fruit salad, cheese walers, potato
chips, date loaf, and coffee was ser-
ved the following. Mesdames Long-
liaugh, Daugherty, Brown, Kopp, Col
lier, Cromwell, Willoughby, Craw-
ford. Smith, Dave Workman, Tucker,
Torn Workman.
We understand that the Santa Bita
hoarding house is to change hands.
The hoarding house has been under
the supervision of Mr. and .Mrs. Isaac
David. The hoarding house is lor
the convenience of the Santa Rita]
people.

Our school has increased about
fourteen pupils since the Holiday*.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Shannon
of Crossed were in Rankin Monday
