Coordinating Accomodations
Lopez helps students have best possible experience
Joey Venghaus
Megaphone Reporter
Graciela Lopez is a
recent staff addition who is
working to help students have
the best possible college
experience. As the newest
Academic Services Coor-
dinator, she has been working
with students since last July.
Q: What did
you do before
you came to
SU?
A: 1
studied at St.
Mary's for my
undergraduate
studies and '.V
then 1 got a
degree in
Higher
Education Counseling from UT.
I was an intern at Austin
Community College (ACC) and
I volunteered at UT.
Q: Why did you decide to
come to SU?
A: 1 liked the small school
environment at St. Mary’s, and
this school is a comparable
size. I wanted to be able to
really get to know and interact
with the students I was working
with, and this campus gives me
that opportunity.
Q: How did you find out about
SU? .
A: I visited the campus with a
friend when I was a senior in
high school, and when I saw the
job opening,
remembered
how beau-
tiful the
campus was.*
Q: Why did
you choose
this line of
work?
A: i wanted a job where 1
could combine counseling and
education, and this job allows
me to do both.
Q: What exactly do you do?
A: I meet with upper level
students having academic
difficulties, and see if there is
any way that we can help
improve their situation. I also
give information to students
interested in graduate schools,
and see that students with
learning disabilities have the
proper accommodations. Last
semester 1 had a focus group
with first year students, and I
am currently trying to start a
discussion group with Latino
students so that we can better
meet their needs.
Q: How has your experience
here been so far?
A: I’ve really enjoyed working
here. 1 try to make a difference,
but sometimes it’s difficult to
do as much as I’d like. As far
as the students and faculty
here, it’s been great. It’s
everything I expected and
more.
Q: What are your future
ambitions?
A: I’d like to go to graduate
school and get a degree in
either Counseling or in
Educational Administration. I
hope to be able to go to UT part
time for a few years, but I
haven’t really decided exactly
what I want to go into just yet.

Spring Sensations
Southwestern’s Intramural and Recreational Activities Department will be sponsoring a new event this Spring
called 2-Ball. 2-Ball is an event where two partners attempt to score points from six designated areas located on
the court in one minute. One player cannot attempt two consecutive shots, instead he/she must either pass or
dribble the ball to his/her partner. Each team must shoot from at least three different spots. The team who has
the most points wins! A designated date has not been determined but look for it in the future. For more information
or details regarding 2-Ball, please contact the Intramural Office at ext. 1606.
This is a reminder that this coming weekend the Intramural Bowling Tournament begins. The tournament will
take place Sunday, February 16th and Sunday, February 23rd at Sunny Bowl Lanes in Round Rock. The tournament
will consist of three game each Sunday. Participants need to check in with their supervisors at 2:45 pm and
