THE MEGAPHONE
BASKETBALL POSSIBILITIES GREAT
Eight new people and great possibilities
is the latest word from Coach Billy Tubbs,
head baksetball coach of Southwestern’s
basketball team. The new players include:
Joe Guillory, from Lee Jr. College, who
is 6' 6 1/ 2”, and weighs 215 pounds. Joe
averaged 13.5 rebounds per game and 17.2
points.
Robert Lee, also from Lee College, is 6’
5”, 185 pounds, and averaged 25.8 points
per game and 15 rebounds
Brian Reinhardt, from Round Rock, is 6’
5”,, 210 pounds, and averaged 25.7 points
and 17 rebounds per game.
Also new, is Paul Tedder who is 6’ 8
1/ 2”, 190 pounds, and is from Lake
Highlands High School, Dallas. He
averaged 16.6 points per game and 10

rebounds.
6’ 6”, 200 pound, Bill Jackson is from
Lamar University. He was voted the
outstanding player on Lamar University’s
1970-71 freshman team. Bill averaged 17
points and 10 rebounds per game.
Tim Teichelman is 6’ 6” and weighs 206
pounds. He was all-conference from Blinn
College, and all-state from Hutto, Texas in
high school. Tim was a Red Shirt for Texas
A&M last year. He is a fine defensive
player.
A transfer, Mark Coward, is a six foot
guard from Round Rock. He was an all-
state High School player. He will also play
golf at Southwestern University.
Charles Cotton is 6\2” from South
Garland High School. He averaged 17
points per game, and was an all-district
player.
According to Coach Tubbs, “the
prospects are good, and the competition is
very challenging.” The team has a lot
more physical strength and size, as six
players weigh over 200 pounds. Tubbs says
“if we have the hustle and bustle that was
evident in last year’s players with the size
of these players this year we ought to
make great strides in the conference this
year.” Players returning are three guards
including Danny Allie, Howard Phearse,
Bobby Young, and three forwards: Louis
Cook, Don Hammons, and Bill Warren.
Five of the major games are on the road,
thus making a rather difficult season.
Among those which Coach Tubbs con-
siders the hardest are: The Centenary
College game at Shreveport, since all
players are back plus a seven footer sign-
up who is one of the top players in the
state ; University of Texas at Arlington is a
difficult game because most players are
back including a 6’ 11” center.
St. Mary’s University has an over-
whelming conference team since every
one of the players returned.
Strength is added because of the year’s
experience together of the returning
players, and of the size and strength of the
players. All in all, it seems that South-
western has a fine basketball team with a
lot of enthusiasm and some fine players.

INTRAMURAL
FOOTBALL
SEASON
PLANNED
BY TERRY LEDBETTER
Megaphone Staff Writer
S.U. students can look forward to an
exciting Intramural Football season. All
teams feel as though they have very strong
chances. The Phi Delts feel they may be
hurting a little in their line, with the loss of
several of last year’s starters. The KA’s
feel they will have an effective “rookie”
offensive line. The Phi Delts report strong
backs and tha^ their “rookies” are also
looking good. The KA’s say that they will
rely heavily on their defense as their most
powerful weapon. The Pi KA’s are also
counting on a powerful defense, because of
strong returners. They report being op-
timistic but not over confident in view of
the coming season. Polishing the offense
is the foremost concern of the Pi KA’s.
The Kappa Sigs who have merged with the
Ind’s, are also looking with optimism to
the coming season. They feel that with the
merger they will be a much stronger team
with a lot of strength in the line.
The Freshmen will also add much ex-
citement with Freshmen Intramural
Touch Football. Competing will be first,
second, and third floor Herman Brown and
Ruter.
