Absence Excuses
Abolished!!!
By faculty action, May 4, 1965,
official university excuses from
class are no longer available. Class
attendance is the responsibility of
the individual student. Individual
faculty members will establish in-
dividual absence policies either con-
tinuing with present policies and
accepting verbal excuses, or estab-
lishing a maximum number of ab-
sences which are possible if the stu-
dent is to obtain credit in a course.
For extended illness or absence of
four or mere days for good reason,
notification will be sent to the stu-
dent’s professors by the dean. Thus
if a student is in the hospital re-
covering from an appendectomy,
word would be sent to bis teachers
of his condition.
The major area which the new
policy will affect is the matter of
short-term medical exettrwtt. T h e
clinic will continue to treat students
who are ill but will not keep a re-
cord of those who “do not feel like
going to class.’’
Students must realize that they
are here to attend class and study
and that if they miss class for what-
ever reason, they are not tending
to their business.
