Obituaries
Newton lost one of
the best smiles and favorite
characters around town with
the passing of Bobby Booker
last week. Loved by many
friends and family members,
Bobby never seemed to
meet a stranger. His laugh-
ter, stories, and enthusiasm
for life will long be remem-
bered. He never made it
back 100%, but Bobby’s re-
markable recovery a few
years ago from an illness that
nearly took him then, gave
him precious time to spend
with his beloved wife Oc-
tavene and his family. A
short time after he got out of
the hospital, when tl|ey at-
tended a special occasion,
everyone present saw the
special looks that Bobby and
Octavene exchanged. It was
if they were taken back to
their youth and that look of
love was all around just the
two of them. Everyone
should experience that kind
of closeness and devotion at
least once in a lifetime. Mar-
ried for many decades, the
magic was still there. Of
course, according to Oc-
tavene and Bobby, the way
they ended up together was
that, when they were “see-
ing” each other, Bobby was
the only young man that Oc-
tavene brought home that
her father didn’t say, “That’s
uncle so-and so’s boy.” That
was good enough for the
couple and Bobby often said
he was related to one half of
Newton County and Oc-
tavene the other. After retire-
ment, one of Bobby’s favorite
pastimes was what Oc-
tavene called “laying out with
the dogs” when he would join
his friends for a night out in
the woods and compare
whose hounds had the best
baying barks. As friends and
family gathered to say good-
bye Saturday afternoon it
was indeed a celebration of a
life well lived and enjoyed to
the fullest. Bobby will most
surely be missed, but the
memories of that smile and
the way he could tell a story
will always bring a bitter-
sweet happiness to those
who were fortunate enough
to have known this sweet,
funny, and loving man.
