THE GREAT COMMISSION-
PART 4—JOHN’S GOSPEL
John's gospel does not con-
clude as Matthew, Mark and Luke
do with final chapter command-
ments, rather Jesus explains
more about the kingdom of God.
Matthew, Mark and Luke use the
phrase “kingdom of God" 122
times in their teachings. In
Matthew 6:33, Jesus said, “But
seek ye first the kingdom of God,
and his righteousness;”; in Mark
10:15, Jesus said, “Whosoever
shall not receive the kingdom of
God as a little child, he shall not
enter therein"—in other words,
one must have a teachable spirit,
be humbie, or else he cannot re-
ceive guidance and correction
(Psalm 51:17; Isaiah 57:15). In
Luke 17:20, Jesus said, The king-
dom of God cometh not with ob-
servation (visible sight), read Acts
2:2. “For the kingdom of God is
not meat and drink; but right-
eousness, and peace, and joy in
the Holy Ghost” (Romans 14:17).
The kingdom of God is one oper-
ated by the Holy Ghost and that
is why “if any man have not the
Spirit of Christ, he is none of his”
(Romans 8:9), therefore “you
must be born again” to produce
the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians
5:22,23).
John uses “kingdom of God”
only twice; 1) “Except a man be
born again (from above, from
God, anew), he cannot see (per-
ceive, understand, know) the
kingdom of God”, 2) "Except a
man be born of water and of
Spirit, he cannot enter the king-
dom of God" (John 3:3-8). In
John 7:37-39, Jesus said, “If any
man thirst, let him come unto me,
and drink. He that believeth on
me, as the scripture hath said, out
of his belly shall flow rivers of liv-
ing water. (But this spake he of
the Spirit, which they that believe
on him should receive: for the
Holy Ghost was not yet given; be-
cause that Jesus was not yet glo-
rified.)”. Two specific points
made are: 1) believe as the scrip-
ture hath—obey exactly as the
Bible tells us; 2) believers should
receive the Holy Ghost like they
did in the Bible, since the Bible
will never change (Matthew 24:35
Psalm 119:89,104,105,165).
“In my Father’s house are
many mansions: if it were not so,
I would have told you. I go to pre-
pare a place for you.” (John 14:2).
The Father (God) “is Spirit” (John
4:24); “house” means dwelling
place and is used as a reference
to the kingdom of God. The
“many mansions” speak
metaphorically of the Holy Spirit
indwelling believers which com-
prise the kingdom of God. Two
scriptures plainly show this; 1)
“Know ye not that ye are the tem-
ple of God, and that the Spirit of
God dwelleth in you? (I Corinthi-
ans 3:16); 2) “What? Know ye
not that your body is the temple
of the Holy Ghost which is in you,
which ye have of God, and ye are
not your own?" (I Corinthians
6:19). These two verses and Acts
5:3,4 also prove that God (Spirit)
and the Holy Ghost (Spirit) are
one and the same Spirit (not per-
sons). “For by one Spirit are we
all baptized into one body” and
“There is one body and one
Spirit...” (I Corinthians 12:13 and
Ephesians 4:4).
Other noteworthy facts from
John 14: v. 16—another Com-
forter coming to abide forever;
v.17—Comforter is Spirit of truth,
dwelling with them in the flesh
(Jesus Christ), but will be in them
soon; v.18—will not leave them
comfortless (orphans, no father),
“I (Spirit of truth, God, Holy
Ghost) will come to you” at Pen-
tecost; v.20—“then ye shall (fu-
ture) know that I am in my Father
(v.14:10), and ye in me, and I in
you”, as written in John 17:11,22-
23 (these can open understand-
ing of Romans 8:9,11 and
Philippians 3:20,21). He is
preparing them for “thy kingdom
come, on earth as in heaven”
(Matthew 6:10) when He sends
the Holy Ghost (Acts 2:1-4). in
John 20:22, Jesus said, “Receive
(don’t reject) ye the Holy Ghost”.
He was teaching them (Acts 1:3)
how they would “hear the sound
of the wind” (John 3:8), but “ye
shall be baptized with the Holy
Ghost not many days hence”
(Acts 1:5). If they received it then,
He wouldn’t have told them they
would be baptized with it later.
