Man Found Dead
On Ranch Road
Refugio.—A San Antonio man
was found dead by his wife
and daughter early Sunday
morning, June 5, 1966 on the
O’Connor Ranch in Refugio
County. Justice of the Peace
John G. Steele reports he had
apparently died of a heart at-
tack due to over exhaustion.
Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Jack
Casey and daughter, who is
approximately eight years old,
left Holiday Beach in a boat
and motor Saturday, June 4, in-
tending to fish in Copano Bay,
according to the investigating
officer, Deputy Sheriff C. E.
Brown. They had motor trouble,
and drifted to shore, onto O’-
Connor property.
The three found a ranch
road, and began walking in the
direction of Refugio. When it
became dark, Casey left his
wife and daughter to rest along
side the road and continued to
walk on. When he did not re-
turn during the night, his wife
and daughter went to look for
him at about 5:30 a.rn. the fol-
lowing morning, and found his
body on the road. Mrs. Casey
continued approximately one
mile to ;U. S. Highway 774,
where she was picked up by
a passing motorist and brought
to the Refugio County Sheriff’s
Department.
Casey, who was 48 years old,
had previously had heart trou-
ble. Zarskv Funeral Home was
in charge of local arrangements.
Commission
MPRESSIONS
Impressions attended a public hearing in Portland
Tuesday morning on proposed Highway Improvement
on Highway 181 from the bluff at the south side of
Portland to north and west of Gregory.
In attendance were two former Refugians—William
Crawford and Harold Bauer. William ( (lots of us know
him as Bill) is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Crawford
and graduated from Refugio High School. Following
graduation from A&M University, he has been with the
State Highway Department and is with the engineering
section of the District Office in Corpus Christi. His boss
and fellow workers certainly speak well of him.
Dr. Harold Bauer is a resident of Portland where
he successfully operates a veterinary business. This
son of Dr. and Mrs. Jimmy Bauer is another A&M grad-
uate. He is very active in community affairs and is cur-
rently a member of the Portland City Commission and
on the Board of Directors of the Portland Chamber of
Commerce.
Incidentally, they could organize a Former Refugio
Resident Club in Portland with a large membership as
a number of our former citizens as well as native sons
and daughters now make their home there. Some have
employment in Corpus Christi and reside in Portland,
while others both work and live in San Patricio County.

Thanks for the nice remarks concerning the words
here last week about an on-the-spot study of highway
bypass effects.

Dear Sir:
I would like to nominate Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Haire
for the “Flower of the Week” for all the work and time
spent with the bowling youth of Refugio, especially the
responsibility of the traveling league composed of five
boys and one girl. They have seen to the responsibility of
getting them to the six towns that are in the South
Texas Area Council. It teaches the youth good sports-
manship, how to get along with others, (friendship),
and other desirable traits, besides being a wonderful
exercise. Keeps them off the streets.
This Friday they will be going to San Antonio for
the State AJBC Bowling Tournament. If it wasn’t for
Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Haire, they would not have the op-
portunity to enter this competition. Who knows? Some
day Refugio may have another Dick Weber.
Lee, Steven and I take our hats off to Mr. and Mrs
Haire and so would like for them to receive the “Flower
of the Week.”
Mrs. Lee Moses, Jr.
Impressions is very happy to add a second to this
fine nomination and the 'Refugio Flower, Gift & Jewelry
Shop send the Flower of the Week to Mr. and Mrs. T
M Haire.

Premotion
Refugio.—Outstanding special
buying opportunities are being
offered by leading Refugio
business firms starting this
week. To be found on page five
of this issue is a page announce-
ment of these specials.
The business firms are plan-
ning to conduct a series of
these specials during the sum-
mer months. This will be a co-
operative effort to demonstrate
the advantages of shopping in
Refugio.
Attention is called to the fact
that some of the business firms
are requiring that their part
of the “Specials” page be pre-1
sented to receive the full ad-
vantage of the featured item.
In developing this program,
some business firms may not
have been contacted. Any mer-
chant wishing to join in the
project may make arrangements
by contacting Bud Jordan at
Mission Furniture Co. in per-
son or by phoning LA 6-4304.
It will also be noted that while
most of the firms are offering
the “Special” for the three days
of Thursday, Friday and Satur-
day, some of the specials are
for one day only.
The business people are plan-
ning to have different features
stood by the public that because
of the unusual buying being of-
fered in many instances the of-
fer can be / ly for the periods
listed and some must be limit-
ed to quantity in stock.
These business firms are seek-
ing to serve the community in
this program as well as pre-
senting items of merchandise
and the quality of their pro-
ducts and services. Comments
from the general public are
Welcomed and invited by these
business people. Regardless of
whether wishing to purchase
the featured item or not, a visit
from you will be appreciated
each week. It is to be under-by any and all of the firms.
