Have You Noticed...
u
By Michael Waits Sr, Pastor, First Baptist Crandall
the awkwardness of that one of the most often cited
not knowing what to do? Years
ago, while I was still midway
through an enjoyable restaurant
management career, I observed
the looks of being ill-at-ease on
patron’s faces when they’d enter
the lobby of the restaurant, ap-
proach the host/hostess stand or
general midpoint in the lobby,
and stand unapproached. In sec-
onds, almost without fail, a look
of discomfort would appear, fol-
lowed in varyingly short periods
of time with consternation. I be-
gan to teach greeters to attempt
to meet the customers as they
walk in and gain eye contact as
quickly as possible. Custom-
ers enter the doorway expecting
to be told or shown where to go
to be served. And the looks of
consternation in the lobby disap-
peared, only to reappear when
we left them standing and look-
ing around.
It is in our nature as human
beings to look for the way to go
through life; make a plan, or cul-
tivate a vision, or lay out a path.
God created us with an inner
sense of awareness of the exis-
tence of both the short term and
long term future. It is no surprise

passages of the Bible at funerals
is John chapter 14 where the Dis-
ciples, with Thomas as spokes-
man, queried Jesus on how to
follow Him where He was going.
They all wondered what is the
way? Jesus responded and we
Christians quote Him. He said,
“I am the way and the truth and
the life. No one goes to the Father
but by me”. “The way” has to do
with how you navigate the life
you are given that leads eventu-
ally to Christ. Time never stands
still and time surrounds the pas-
sageway between you and eter-
nity. “Time waits for no man” is
a quote from multiple authors of
the middle ages; but that tested
and proven truth has been found
to provide the boundaries of
man’s plight: we are temporal,
bound up by the passage of time
and eventual death.
Your “way” is given to you
and you have to choose how to
spend it. If you’ve chosen to fol-
low Jesus, then the way includes
actually following Him. If you
claim Christian as your status,
do you follow Him? Ask Him
to show you the way.. .You’ll be
glad you did.

Galveston - Continued from page 3
LI
years, the ‘water lovers’ in our
family have devoted a day to the
awesome Schlitterbahn Water
Park. They always return to the
beach house a littler redder than
when they left and a bit more tired
but the absolutely love their time
at the park. A trip to Galveston
should most definitely include a
day at the water park for all those
that love the water!
A PLACE TO STAY- There
are several options when it comes
to lodging while in Galveston
but for us, we much prefer rent-
ing a beach home for a few days.
We are a large group and need a
bigger house but smaller fami-
lies could opt for a smaller wa-
terfront, second row beachfront
or canal house. We enjoy being
under the same roof and although
eating out is a treat, we also pre-
pare a couple of evening meals at
our house. During the summer,
we usually stay in a house near
the beach but in the fall, I much
prefer renting one of the canal
houses where catching sheeps-
head, whiting, sand trout and
flounder is as easy as stepping
out the back door onto the dock.
For the past few years, we have
rented a house on the canal called
Coral Reef at Jamaica Beach.
This place is set up perfectly for
fishing. The folks at Wolverton
Realty have been very accommo-
dating through the years and they
offer a good selection of rental
homes.

Mental Health - Continued from page 1
We must recognize the price that our society pays when untreat-
ed individuals with mental illnesses find themselves incarcerated. In
2012, there were an estimated 356,268 inmates with severe mental
illness in prisons throughout our country. In Texas, there are 35,000
prisoners with a severe mental illness, but only 4,500 psychiatric
units in all Texas general hospitals.
It astonishes me that data demonstrating that failure to provide
psychiatric treatment for low-income people leads directly to home-
lessness and incarceration, and yet our country has done little to
remedy the situation.
We must act to ensure that we do not warehouse the severely
mentally ill population in prisons, or leave them untreated and living
on the streets. We must work to eliminate barriers to better mental
health treatment for those who face severe challenges.
Repealing the IMD Exclusion can help those with mental ill-
nesses to regain access to treatment that they rightly deserve. It could
also save taxpayers the burden of costly emergency room visits.
It will also help us decrease our homeless population, and assist
people to gain access to treatment and stable housing by making it
more economically viable for hospitals and other residential psychi-
atric facilities.
