Sonny and Jeanetia McNeill trav-
eled to Dallas and Fort Worth last
week. They attended the National
cheerleader competition. Their
granddaughter Tori McNeill, daugh-
ter of Jim and Sherry McNeill, par-
ticipated in the contest. Her team
place eight They also visited with
Tim and Debbie McNeill, their son
Kevin and Tori were on the program
during a banquet at their high school.
Tim and Debbie Mcneill, their
Kevin and Nathan will be going to
Belgium soon as missionaries.
The Woman's S tudy Club of Happy
met in the home of Sara Tirey on
March 2. The club pledge was led by
Sara Tirey. Roll call was answered
by telling about your favorite house
plant Joan Frost was program chair-
man. The study clugb served dessert
to the teachers, during teachers ap-
preciation week.
Those attending were; Willie But-
ler, Willa Elliott, Joan Frost, Willa
Jane McManigal, Kate McManigal,
Joan Odom, Ora Mary Sims, LaNelle
Todd, Novalene Toles and hostess
Sara Tirey.

tended the "Rajko" Song and Dance
Ensemble routine at the Community
Stage in Hereford last Saturday night.
The world famous "Rajko" Song and
Dance Ensemble offers a unique
muscial experience. This company
of professional musicians and firey
dancers has been enjoying an in-
ternational career for many years.
SueSims, Ross and CallieofSunray
visited her mom, Lonas Wright sev-
eral days this past week. Ross said he
was going to spend a few days with
his grandmother.
The community breakfast was very
delicious. The elementary school
students dressed in their favorite of
the books they had read. The teach-
ers and students preformed several
skits. The host did an excellent job
of serving, I'm kind of glad they
didn't do the cooking, they were Ken
please call the office andgive Lottie
Talley his/her name by March 12th.

and Earlene Ruff. They ate lunch in
the Shy View Restaurant located in
the National Bank Building.
Christy S. Payne made the Dean's
Honor list at Corpus Chrisri A&M
College. She is the daughter of
Marilyn Payne of Happy.
The Happy VolunteerFire Dept is
in need of players for the volleyball
tournament to be held March 11-13.

Vigo Park received .45 to .60
inches of rain Sunday night as a cold
front passed through the area, dump-
ing rain and some small hail on resi-
dents.
Hazel Gardner and son, Gary
Gardner, attended the funeral of her
aunt, Ellen O’Dell in Panhandle
Wednesday. Ms. O’Dell was married
to the youngest of Hazel’s father’s
brothers, and the last of that genera-
tion to pass away at age 98.
Martha Heck of San Antonio has
been visiting in the homeofher daugh-
ter, Ann and Kevin Crooks this week.
She came to visit her daughter and for
the occasion of the birth of Bill and
Sandy Heck’s first child in Amarillo.
Randall Davis Heck was bom Tues-
day evening in the presence of his
aunt, Ann Crooks, who video taped
his first look at the family he has
come to bless. Kevin and Ann, Nikki,
Ashley and Kelsi Crooks and Martha
went to Amarillo Sunday to intro-
duce themselves to the new family
member.
John and Lucy Culwell shared
Sunday dinner with their children,
Vicld and Kenneth Littlefield, Cheryl
and Dale Swinbum, and grandchil-
dren, Kenee Borchardt, Ranie, Taryn
and Nelson; and Chad, Michelle and
Sutton Swinbum.
Mike Culwell and son, Chad Cul-
well performed for the audience at
Big Texan in Amarillo Sunday
evening. Theymadearetum engage-
ment Tuesday night.
Myrla Gardner was home from
Philadelphia and visiting her mother,
Hazel Gardner this past week.

Culifer’s 86th birthday party in Tulia
Sunday afternoon.
The Dan Gardners spent the week-
end atSipapuski area nearTaos, New
Mexico. They report the snow was
pretty sparse and so skiing was not as
great as it normally is in that area.
Lisa Grabbe of Amarillo came to
Vigo Park Tuesday to tend store for
her mom, Helen Norwood while she
kept some appointments in Amarillo.
Her son Jason was most helpful with
the customers.
Gary Moore returned from Spring-
field, Illinois Tuesday evening after
attending the national convention for
National Fanner’s Union association.

We finally received some much
needed moisture early Monday morn-
ing. Reports from around the county
ranged from .40 to .60 inches of rain.
Although the rainfall amounts were
not as high as we wanted, any amount
we get is greatly appreciated. Hope-
fully, this was the break we have been
looking for and we are on track to
accumulate soil moisture for spring
planting.
Once again, my schedule has been
busy with stock shows. The Houston
Livestock Show and Rodeo ended
last week. Swisher County was rep-
resented by 29 4-H members at the
Houston Stock Show.

barrows entered, only 660 made it to
Houston for the final show and auc-
tion. The following had placing pigs
at Houston: Derek Finck, second
place Yorkshire; Allen Sturgess,
fourth place Bexkenshiie; Julie Mor-
gan, fifth place Cross; Blane Womack,
eleventh place Cross; and Corey
Dunn, twelfth place Duroc.
In the Market Steer Show, Nick
Rogers placed sixth with his Maine
steer and Kendra Finck placed eighth
with her Shorthorn steer. In the Jun-
ior Rabbit Show, Ryan Maney re-
ceived Best of Breeds honors with his
Silver Martin doe and had numerous
first and second places with his other
rabbits. William Hulsey placed first
and second with his Florida Whites
rabbits.
Other 4-H members participating
at the Houston Livestock Show in-
cluded Ky Finck, Christopher Gibson,
John Mark Gibson, Jacob Jones, Jenny
Jones,ElaineSturgess, Kate Harman,
Bryan Dunn, Brett Dunn, J. Frank
Been, Brian Sturgess, Cheryl

Thank you to all of the 4-H parents
who assisted meat the Brenham Pig
Sift The pig sift is five days of ex-
tremely hard work from 5:30 a.m. to
10:00 p.m. Without your dedication
and team work attitude, the 4-H mem-
bers, their pigs, andmyself would not
survive the pig sift Thanks again and
let's look forward to next year.
A group of Nazareth women at-
tended the World Day of Prayer,
Friday afternoon at the United Meth-
odist Church in Dimmitt. It was a
very meaningful program entitled
God's Tender Touch.
Congratulations to the Nazareth
Swift team and their coaches,
Scarbrough and Price, on an exciting
and outstanding season.
Jason Birkenfeld, a freshman in
Nazareth High School, is one lucky
kid to be back in school today after
being treated at Swisher Memorial
Hospital in Tulia for scraps and
bruises last Monday dvening. He
learned how important it is to wear a
helmet when riding a four-wheeler.
Our sympathy to the family and
friends of Jerker Schulsted, 24, of
Sweden who died Tuesday in a Lub-
bock Hospital. He has lived here in
Nazareth since last fall. He was taken
back to Sweden for burial.
David Veikamp, a junior in Naz-
areth High School, came home today
to recuperate after a weeks stay in
Northwest Texas Hospital in Ama-
rillo. He was kicked by a horse.
