MISS SOMMER SANDERS was
chosen as Little Miss Happy, Junior
Miss was Bobbi Jo Ewing, first run-
ner up for Miss Happy was Ivy Bressler
and Miss Happy is Megan Simons.
The setting for the pageant was a
Walk on the Beach, very pretty with
silver streamers, colorful beach balls
and artificial lights along an imagi-
nary walk down to tire surf
Sponsors were Happy Days Asso-
ciation and First State Bank. Each
winner received a $50 savings bond
from the First State Bank and Miss
Happy received a $250 scholarship
from the Happy Days Association
Genie Noel, Miss Happy of 2000
crowned Megan Simon Miss Happy
2001 Thanks to the many people who
helped with the pageant. Some of the
women were Michelle Frost, Joy Jones,
JacindaLangen, AmberPearson, Judy
Shipman, Janie Frost, and many oth-
ers. Pink lemonade was served to the
guests.
ON TUESDAY, JUNE 26, from 7
p.m. to 9 p.m , the Starlight Theater
will present free live music by Texas
Gospel at the Sam Houston Park in
Amarillo.
ON JUNE 27, CHARLIE'S Park
Adventure for children ages 4 to 1.2
will meet at the park for our fourth
meeting. We will meet from 10 a. m.
to 11 *30 a.m We will have lunch in
tlie park.
SUNDAY, JULY 1, after church,
the Happy Cowgirls will be serving a
lasagna dinner with salad, breadsticks,
and homemade desserts at file com-
munity center to raise money for the
basketball team camp Donations will

The 55th annual Texas 4-H
Roundup was held recently on the
campus of Texas A&M June 11-15
with more than 1,500 volunteers and
2,300 4-H members taking part in the
event. Participants took part in public
speaking and judging contest, lead-
ership development programs, and
educational rallies.
The Texas 4-H Foundation, in co-
ordination with 32 donors from across
the state, recognized 4-H youth with
more than $ 1 million in college schol-
arships. The Texas 4-H program cur-
rently has more than one million
jj\5Pibers.i£prolled. The Texas 4-H
program began in 1908 with the
founding of the Boy’s Com Club.
Later in 1912, the Girls Tomato Club
was formed, and then later combined
into the 4-H we know today.
Swisher County had eleven 4-H
youth, eight adult leaders and two
agents who attended Roundup. Jenny
Rogers and her mother went early for
4-H Scholarship interviews. On Tues-
day, Jenny received a $ 10,000.00 San
Antonio Livestock Expsition Schol-
arship. Kiri Schoenenberger partici-
pated in the Apparel Design Contest
on Tuesday. Kiri’s design was judged
and she went through an interview on
Tuesday morning. Kiri placed 5th in
the Apparel Design. The State Fash-
ion Show was held on Wednesday.
Swisher County had three partici-
pants who qualified to participate at
State. Mallory Vestal won 1st in the
Buying Speciality Category, Kate
Hannan won 1st in the Construction
Dressy Category and 2nd in the Wool
Construction Category, and Ryan
Maney won 2nd in the Construction
Speciality Category.
Placing in the Method Demonstra-
tion Contest on Thursday were Kate
Harman and William Hulsey in Cloth-
ing and Textiles with 4th Place; Kiri
Schoenenberger in the Promote 4-H
with 5th Place; Megan Simons and
Derek Finck in the Beef Category
with 6 th; Ryan Maney and John Mark
Gibson in the Horse Category with
8th; and Melissa Adams and Devree
in the Family Life Educational Activ-
ity with 14th Place. Congratulations
to each of these 4-H’ers for their hard
work and in representing Swisher
County very well. We would like to
thank Rhonda Rogers, Cathey Ves-
tal, Cynthia Finck, Dorothy Hulsey,
Cathey Jo Harman, GlendaandDavid
Gibson for their support and help in
sponsoring and transporting the 4-
H’ers to College Station.
