PREVENTION OF HYDROPHOBIA.
Fortunately for the human race,
as well as- tor his friend the , dog.
Pasteur, a great French scientist,
. worked out amt perfected a preven-
tive for rabies that has saved thous-
ands of lives. This treatment was
announced to the world about . 1884.
Every, state in the South, as far as I
know-,’..ha#,,„a state laboratory where
the hueds of animals suspected of
having rabie^can he examined. *
A dog suspected of having rabies
should lie kilted, the head removed,
placed in a tin container, this tin con-
tainer placed in a wooden box ice
packed around it if possible, and sent
to the State Laboratory for examina-
tion. ' i *
.Those bitten by such an animal,
should begin the Pasteur treatment
within four or ve days at the must.
This is a time when hesitation and
delay are extremely dangerous. The
treatment consists of twenty-one h\ -
' pudermie injections, that must be
given by a physician. The treatment
should he begun even if only the si.
lava -in i' a« animal, comps in con-
tact with face or hands. The Pro-

Iir^Uie past, motorists with extra

picked up persons waiting at the
roadside and carried thtfm along.
Now, however, after scores of court

t'heauto owners are becoming more
wary, for. even '• those who'carry lia

the amount of their policy.
The article in the magazine goes
on to point out that tiie day of pity-

deffinitely past. It say- that guest

€J Organization of the natural gas in-
dustry has long since proved itself the
most valuable form of conservation of
this wonderful fuel.
<1 Before the larger producing companies
offered a market for gasr well drillers
regarded it as a nuisance only, and fre-
quently let millions of feet blow away
each day in the bare hope that oil might
follow.
<JWhen the producing companies built
net works of transporting lines over the
territory, the gas could be marketed,
and a “gasser”' immediately became of
value. That brought about the plugging
of such wells until they could be used.
In this way, great supplies of this best
of all fuels were preserved for the use of
tiie people.
qAs gathering lines are extended, the
waste of gas in the field is less and less
noticeable. Because the supply of gas
will some day be entirely exhausted, this
saving becomes of real value to the house-
keeper^. of Texas, whosp gas supply is
thereby prolonged
