The meeting was opened by re-
peating the Lord's prayer, Mrs.
John Shuptrine, Camp and Hos-
pital Service, gave a discussion of
her work in the Red Cross; Miss
Xena Crawford, who is Home
ServitV chairman gave a report
of her work during the year: Mrs.
’Bill Embrey, chairman of the
Junior Red Cross, discussed the
work of that branch of service;
Mrs. George Flood, Jr., chairman
of the Red Cross campaign gave
an instructive talk on the com-
ing campaign and Mrs. Leo Tow-
ers, Jr., last year’s chairman, gave
her experiences during the past
year. Rev. H, T. Arnold closed
the business rheeting with prayer.
Following the business meeting
a tea was enjoyed by those who
attended. The refreshment table
was laid with a very lovely hand-
drawn white cloth and the table
arrangements were made hv Mrs.
Ed PTood and Mrs. George Flood,
Jr. The table was centered by a
large- red cross, flanked on either
side by tall red tapers in silver
holders. Crystal cornacopia held
red carnations and white daisies
and ferns to remind the members
that the- Bandera chapter has nev-
er fallen under its set quota. The
red hearts were a symbol of giving program
from the heart. Mrs. John Xixon
served the coffee and delicious
cake with little red crosses made
from candy red hots was served
to the iafttc- group.
The fund raising campaign will

Sheriff W. H. Burns, Bandera
county tax assessor-collector, re-
ceived a telegram Wednesday
morning from the State Comp-
troller notifying him of the in-
creases put in effect Wednesday
by the State’s lacymaking body.
Specifically the telegram said
that the Omnibus House Bill 3,
Article 6, levies an additional one-
tenth of one per cent on motor
vehicle sales effective March 1,
3950. The tax lias been one per
cent up to’now. in other words if
you swung a deal for a new -car
before March 1 (Wednesday) you
did not have to pay as much for
;it as you will have to pay. in tlie
future. One-tenth of one per cent
is not very much, hut it is a
part of the over-all tax increase-
