Routing plan architect
selected for golf course
Port Aransas is one step closer to
having a municipal golf course after
two workshops in the last week.
City Manager Gordon Beck was
authorized to sign the contract for a
routing plan with GolfScapes of Ar-
lington after a workshop Tuesday, July
23.
Beck said the firm will make sev-
eral routing plans which figure the
contours, greens, sandtraps, etcetera.
The city will select from those plans,
then GolfScapes will work up a budget
for earth movement to accommodate
drainage, which is critical to a golf
course, Beck said. The plan will be
sufficient for a contractor to develop a
budget to present to lenders to obtain
financing.
Beck said all indications are that
First Golf of Denver, CO will be the
contractor, although the contract will
riot be signed until after financing is

PAHS cheerleaders
bring home spirit
In addition to new cheers and rou-
tines, Port Aransas High School’s
Marlin cheerleaders brought home
four Superior ratings, theTeam Award

Camp.
The camp was held at Lamar Uni-
versity in Beaumont July 14-17.
The cheerleaders were rated Supe-
rior four out of four performances
with cheerleaders from Class 1A to
5A schools. The Marlin spirit leaders

jump incorporated in the cheer.
Cheerleader sponsor Penny McFad-

“really did a great job!”

Humphreys (captain), Tracey Barnes
(co-captain), Heather Creighton,
Andrea Cannon and mascot Marilee

Spaghetti dinner
is called a success
An “all-you-can-eat” spaghetti
dinner to benefit the elderly residents
of Port Aransas played to rave re-
views on Friday, July 19, a spokes-
man for the sponsoring group said.
The success spurred the Port Aran-
sas Senior Citizens Association to
have a spaghetti booth at the Port
Aransas Days celebration in Septem-
ber.
The dinner was the first fund raiser
held by the recently formed organiza-
tion and “exceeded all expectations.
We were extremely pleased with the
turn-out and the encouragement and
offers of support from so many in the
community,” Bill Sexton of the asso-
ciation said.
Proceeds from the dinner will be
used to establish programs benefit-
ting the senior citizens of Port Aran-
sas. _______
