More Than Just Books: The
Learning Resource Centers
St. Philip’s College has a
library! The library is called
the Learning Resource Center
(LRC) and is located on the
third floor of the Sutton build-
ing, with a branch at South-
west Campus Building 3020.
Both LRCs not only have
books, models, audio books,
DVDs, videocassettes, and
CDs that relate to the classes
being taught, but also best-
selling fiction and non-fiction
books, popular music and
DVDs. Public computers may
be used to access the huge
number of databases that the
LRC subscribes to for users to
find up-to-date, scholarly arti-
cles, magazine articles, and a
wide variety of sources in dig-
ital form. Many of the items
found in the databases may
be saved to a memory stick,
emailed, printed or saved in
a folder. The computers may
also be used to access the In-
ternet, read online or e-books,
listen to pod casts and view
streaming videos. Microsoft
Office 2007 is installed on all
the computers.
St. Philip’s gives all stu-
dents an email account. Per-
sonalized Access to Learn-
ing and Services, or PALS,
has many other uses besides
email. The LRC’s comput-
ers may be used for PALS,
Blackboard Vista and
a few other online re-
sources. Friendly and
knowledgeable library
faculty and staff are
always ready to help
with the online catalog,
databases, PALS, copy
machines and whatev-
er help is needed - just
ask us!
Help is also avail-
able at www.accd.edu/spc/ad-
min/lrc/default.aspx for the
“Ask-A-Librarian” link. Suc-
cessful students use the library,
so we will see you soon!
