Valedictorian of the 1951 grad-
uating class of Hondo High School
was Miss Ramona Rucker, above.
Miss Lucille Hartmann was salu-
tatorian. The two top honor stu-
dents of the class had averages
so nearly alike that school offi-
cials were not able to determine
the 1951 valedictorian until the
closing day of the term.
H. D. Club News
The Murphy Home Demonstration
Club held its meeting at the Mur-
phy Community Center on May 24,
with Mrs. John Coyle as hastes*.
Six members, our agent Miss
Combs, and three guests were
present.
Slides on modernizing kitchens
were shown by Miss Combs. Plans
were made to entertain the O.M.T.
cJub on June 6.
Following the close of the meet-
ing a surprise pink and blue shower
was given Mrs. Dan Menk.

were served by Mrs Coyle.
The next meeting will be held on
June 6 at the Murphy Community

on Friday. May 25. at the home
of Mrs. Payne. The county agent,

and also showed some slides on

Ronald Peterson, in soldier uni-

candelabra formed the center dec-
oration.

A graduation reception was held
in honor of Ermilo Salas on Sun-
day. May 28 at the Moonlight Cafe.
There were 53 guests present in-
cluding 23 from Sail Antonio.
Guests of honor were Joe Alu-
crete, Carlos Herrera and Ofilia
Garcia, other graduates The hon-
orev’s mother, Mrs. Carmen It.
Ramirez, and sister Mrs. Pete
Morales, were hostesses.
A dinner consisting of chicken in
fiuTT *, chicken in tomato sauce,
potato and avocado salad, French
enchiladas, drinks and dessert was
served.
The honoree received a number
of nice gifts.

GIVEN PARTY MAY 24
CASTROVILLE — Eighth grade
graduates were given a party on
May 24. with the seventh grade en-
tertaining.
Colors of pink and white were
used in decorating. Arrangements
ol garden flowers and a beautiful
cake centered the refreshment
table. Rose baskets were filled
with nuts and dainty rose place
cards were used
Highlighting the occasion were
the interesting games introduced.
An added attraction was th a
"Balloon Battle Royal" with the
eighth grade capturing the prizes.

Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., ’serving
in his first enlistment in the con-
struction engineers, is spending a
ten-day leave with his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. John D. McCoy of Na-
talia.
Pvt. JOHN T. BOEHME was re-
cently transferred from Camp Gor-
don, Ga., to Camp Cooke, Calif.
On a three-day pass he visited his
brother, CLOVIS M. BOEHME of
U. S. Navy, who was stationed at
San Diego. Clovis is now enjoying
a two weeks' visit with his parents,
after which he will be stationed
at Corpus Christi. John and Clovis
arc the sens of Mr and Mrs Rob
ert Boehme.

LING of Natalia appears on the
Korean casualty list issued by the

He missed the high school scholar-

Joe L. attended Central Catholic

he traveled nearly 50,000 miles to

Joe L. will leave this week for
the University of Texas, where he
